Cuzinz from a narrow gene pool

Police found graffiti in the women’s restroom at Proksa Park, 3001 Wisconsin.  Done in marker on a bathroom stall and a changing table, it read, “CUZINZ FOR EVER MONICA AND ANGIE WERE HERE” and “CARLOS LOVES LILY”.

Woman’s credit card used in Aurora, sans permission

A 36-year-old woman from the 3700 block of Grove reported her discovery that a stranger used her Mastercard the previous day.  The offender made purchases totaling $400 at the Meijer store in Aurora.  The victim had not lent out the card.

Nowhere to run: ad payment yields too few ads

A Cicero woman who works in a medical office in the 2200 block of Oak Park came to the police department to report a deceptive practice.  She said her medical office placed an ad, intended to run for four months, in the “Beacon-Gazette” newspaper, 3100 Oak Park.  However, the ad ran only one month.  The ad, she said, cost $250.  The victim said she repeatedly attempted to reach the Beacon-Gazette, but never received an answer as to why the ad did not run.  At one point, she told police, she spoke to the publisher, Steve Iwaniec.  According to the victim, Iwaniec laughed at her and stated that they were going out of business and he could do as he pleased.

Burglary after burglary after burglary …

A man was seen breaking into a VW Jetta in the 1500 block of Euclid, The offender then jumped a backyard fence, fled through a yard at 1533 Oak Park and was last seen running north, wearing a grey hoodie and dark pants.  The victim told police he was missing a $200 subwoofer, a $150 Bose amp and a $200 stereo.  The stereo was gone for good, but police found the amp and subwoofer dumped in the yard through which the burglar ran.

Also in the 1500 block of Euclid, a red BMW was found with a broken window and its stereo stolen.
3:11 PM
A woman from the 3200 block of Wesley parked her Ford Explorer in the 6500 block of 26th.  When she returned to the SUV it had a broken window.  Someone had stolen from it a GPS unit, two DVD players, an IPod Nano, a case of DVDs and a Discover credit card.
10:09 PM
Residents of a home in the 2700 block of Harvey came home to an open back door and a window screen lying, inappropriately, on the ground.  The entire house was ransacked; someone had stolen two laptop computers, a TV and a radio.

Caller reports shots fired; victim finds remains of bat

A witness in the 7100 block of 34th told police a man pulled up next to a Mercury Marquis, broke out the windows and fled.  A broken half of a baseball bat was found in the back seat.

Commercial and residential burglary roundup

The alarm went off at 16th St. Liquors, 6808 16th, where police found pry marks and damage to a door lock.  No entry was made.

Someone broke into a pawn shop at 7031 Roosevelt and stole two TV sets.

A tenant in the 1900 block of Scoville found his door forced open, his TV stolen and his Smith & Wesson .380 handgun missing from a closet shelf.  The victim told police he suspects an acquaintance.
10:55 PM
A woman in the 3700 block of Highland returned from a dinner engagement to find her home broken into.  Stolen items included jewelry, a 56” TV, a laptop computer, a bottle of Patron tequila, and three pillowcases.

Expensive cigarette inventory stolen

Police responded to a burglary report at the Marathon gas station, 1600 Oak Park.  The store owner, a Bridgeview resident, said someone broke a window to get into his Dodge minivan, parked beside the building, then stole a GPS unit and 197 cartons of cigarettes, valued at $11,426.  The victim said he stocks up weekly at Sam’s Club.

No cruise with booze

A caller alerted police to a suspicious white GMC Jimmy in the 2300 block of Highland/Harvey alley.  Driver Daniel Villagrana, 34, of 5725 Claremont, Chicago, said he was waiting for a friend who went into 2342 Harvey.  Police noticed an open beer in the front seat, so the vehicle was impounded.  Villagrana was cited for transporting open alcohol.

Habitual suspended driving

Police stopped an older white Lincoln Continental in the 6700 block of 15th because of its expired plates.  Driver Edgar Lechuga, 23, of 2530 Kenilworth, was found to be out on bond for an arrest in Westchester for driving on a suspended license; he also had two active arrest warrants.  The car was impounded and Lechuga was cited for driving despite his suspended license and for the expired registration.

Church parking lot not immune to vandals, burglars

A tan pickup truck parked in the lot behind St. Mary of Celle church, 1428 Wesley, was found with a broken window, damaged dash and missing stereo.  In the same lot, a black Land Rover got its window broken, too.

Stolen car found wrecked

A grey Aveo was reported stolen from the 7000 block of 16th at some time between 6 and 8 PM.  When police ran the license plate, they learned the car had already been towed by Illinois State Police.  The Aveo was found wrecked and abandoned at I-290 and Cicero Avenue.

Stolen: sneakers, shirts, socks and sports bras

A security guard at Marshall’s, 7163 Cermak, told police she detained a woman she saw fill two bags—one belonging to the store—with merchandise, then walk out without paying.  The theft could be seen clearly on store surveillance video. The stolen merchandise had a total value of $162.91 and included four pairs of gym shoes, sandals, a blue Air Jordan bag, socks, shirts, and skirt and two sports bras. Police charged Triana Hill, 24, of 4620 Maple, Brookfield, with retail theft.

Crack open a can in the can? No can do

A Berwyn park district worker called police to report he was following a man he caught damaging property at Berwyn Park District Maintenance Department‎, 2920 Oak Park. He said the offender, dressed in black, left the scene toting a cardboard box.

The worker said he heard a loud pounding noise coming from the women’s restroom in the building, so he opened the door and found a man standing at the sink with a can of food; he was pounding the can with another object, causing the sink to shake.  When asked what he was doing, the offender reportedly said he was trying to get the can open. The sink was left damaged, having come loose from the wall.

The offender left the scene, walking north with the worker in pursuit.  Police stopped Ricardo Robles, 26, of 5812 west 63rd, Chicago, and charged him with criminal damage to property.
