Stolen van

A brown 1992 Ford Van was reported stolen from the 1400 block of Harvey.

A woman in the 7000 block of 26th Place reported a teenage boy has been throwing gum at her house on a regular basis. She played a surveillance tape for police, showing a thin, bespectacled male teen, in which the boy could indeed be seen throwing gum at her house.
Two cars burglarized

A burglar broke out a window on a 1997 Tahoe parked in the 6400 block of 33rd. An Alpine stereo/CD player was stolen. Later, a Hillside man told police he parked his car in the 7000 block of Cermak, and when he returned someone had removed a Dell laptop, an iPod and a Sony stereo/CD/MP3 player. There were no signs of forced entry.
Craftsman mower stolen

The victim of a garage burglary in the 1200 block of Elmwood told police someone forced open the service door and stole his mower.
Cranky father-in-law resorts to violence

A 72-year-old man was charged with domestic battery after attacking his daughter-in-law during an argument over “dog and family problems” in the home both occupy in the 1400 block of Cuyler. The man reportedly pushed the 28-year-old woman’s chest, hit her in the head and face, pulled some of her hair out and broke her glasses.
Wanted man lurks in alley

An officer on a pre-dawn patrol noticed a white minivan in the 1500 block of Clinton/Kenilworth alley. He asked the driver why he was there, and requested ID. The driver was wanted on DUI-related warrants from both Chicago and Kane Counties, so he was taken into custody.
Chaperone role taken seriously

A woman from the 6900 block of Roosevelt called police because her brother was punching and chasing her boyfriend, a Forest Park man. Arriving officers saw the 24-year-old brother chasing the boyfriend, yelling “I’m gonna f*** you up!”. The brother was charged with one count of domestic battery.
Simple question elicits verbal abuse, flailing

An officer stopped when he saw a man trying to stagger across Ridgeland at 26th. When the squad car came close, the man began to bang on the passenger window. The officer got out and asked the man for some identification. The man responded, “F*** you, puto!” and punched the officer in the chest. The officer then took the kicking and struggling man to the ground to handcuff him. Backup units were necessary to control the man, who had an active DUI-related Chicago arrest warrant. Bernard Uriostegui, 40, of Cicero, was charged with one count of battery and one of resisting a peace officer.
Friendly old lady’s new pal suspected in theft

A 45-year-old man told police his very friendly elderly mother, who walks around town chatting with people she meets, brought a man back to their shared home in the 3700 block of Euclid. The man reported coming home at 10:15 PM to find a stranger in the house— a new acquaintance of Mom’s. Once the man left, the young son’s Game Boy was missing, too. The dad described the stranger’s car to police. The plates registered to a Joliet man with an extensive criminal history including assaults, armed robbery, weapons offenses and more. The rap sheet also identified the car owner as a member of a well-known street gang. When the suspected thief is found, the homeowner intends to sign a complaint.
Accident reveals grounds for tickets

A two-vehicle accident at Cermak and Riverside Drive resulted in tickets for a Cicero teen. Rene Velazquez, 17, was cited for failure to yield at an intersection, driving without a license and having tinted license plate covers.
Landlord, non-paying tenant dispute drags on

A man from an apartment in the 3100 block of Harlem called police claiming his landlord had just broken down the door to his apartment. The caller also suggested his belongings were being stolen. The tenant, who has not paid his rent in at least three months, stated he plans to live there until he is evicted. Police found both landlord and tenant at the scene. When questioned by police, the tenant denied telling dispatchers items were being stolen from his apartment. The landlord told police the tenant had promised to be gone by June 1st, so he waited an extra two days, then went into the flat to see what repairs would be needed.
Unlocked car, stolen stereo

A man told police the Sony stereo/CD player was stolen from his unlocked Chevy sedan while it was parked in the 3100 block of Oak Park Avenue. The stereo was valued at $100. The burglar also took a case containing about 100 CDS, valued at $2000.
Neighbor unknowingly witnesses grill theft

A man in the 3100 block of Wenonah reported someone stole his green and silver Weber gas grill, worth $600. While police were at the scene, a neighbor described seeing two teen males pull up in the alley behind the victim’s property the previous evening. He said he saw the two struggling to put the grill in the back of their rusty blue van, then leave eastbound on 31st. The witness said he did not report it at the time because he believed the teens had taken a grill set out for disposal.
Speeding on Cermak

An officer stopped a red Olds Achieva in the 6700 block of Cermak after radar showed the car was traveling 40 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. The 33-year-old driver, Janette Morales of Cicero, also had no driver’s license.
BMW, garage damaged

In the 7100 block of 16th an unknown offender kicked in a garage service door, breaking the lock, and a woman in the 2800 block of Highland reported someone scratched her BMW and punctured one of its tires overnight.
