Disturbed woman disturbs neighbor

A man living in the 2700 block of Ridgeland called police to report his 76-year-old neighbor was banging on his window with a stick and accusing him of attacking her with chemicals. Police arrived and learned the woman also believes the man somehow directs electric shocks at her. Paramedics wanted to bring the woman to the hospital for a psychological evaluation. However, she signed a refusal and passed the competence test: she knew her birth date, what year and what day it was, and could name the current president of the United States. Police could do nothing but advise her to stop bothering the man.

At 2:50 PM, a call came to police from the Berwyn Hotel, 3137 Oak Park Ave., about a woman who refused to leave the premises. At 3:12, the same woman refused to leave George’s Tavern, 6741 Stanley. She was not a customer; the bar owner warned her not to enter or hang around the place. A disorderly conduct citation was issued to the woman, 57, of Cicero.
Like waking up without a kidney

A woman in the 3600 block of Highland reported someone got into her Chevy sedan and stole car parts. The outside door handle assembly had been pried out. The stolen parts included two overhead visors, the stereo faceplate and the dashboard grille for the radio, heat and air; the center caps of each wheel; and both fender deflectors. Some CDs were also taken.

A garage door in the 1800 block of Wesley was marked with illegible writings done in silver spray paint. Trash cans, a garage door and a wooden fence were defaced 6900 block of 29th. A garage in the 7100 block of Riverside Drive and another in the 3600 block of Clinton were also hit by paint-wielding vandals. A garage wall received gang markings in the 3600 block of Clarence: this one happened between 11 AM and 3 PM.
Phones, accessories, accessed illicitly

The manager of a cellphone store told police items were missing from the inventory he keeps at the Public Storage place at 2801 Harlem. There was no sign of forced entry to the storage unit. The manager said several salesmen and delivery drivers share access. Missing are over $15,000 worth of phones and accessories.

An officer in the 6700 block of Ogden pulled over a white 1998 Ford van with no front license plate. The plate existed; however it was sitting on the dashboard rather than in the appropriate license plate bracket. 41-year-old Arnulfo Sosa of Cicero had to be identified by fingerprints because he had no driver’s license on file. He also had no insurance and no safety-inspection sticker. The van was towed.
Cicero driver caught speeding on Ogden

A 20-year-old Cicero man in a green Ford Focus was clocked going 21 miles over the speed limit in the 6700 block of Ogden. Edgar A. Francisco’s car was towed because he was also driving without license or insurance.
Woman blocks driveway with Jeep

A man in the 3600 block of Euclid reported a white Jeep blocking his driveway. The Jeep was registered to Maximena Pena, of Chicago. Pena was found and she moved the Jeep. She was then ticketed for blocking the driveway and violating the street’s “Residents Only 8-10 AM” parking rule.

An anonymous call about a drunk on Roosevelt road led police to the 6300 block, where they found 30-year-old Travares Y. Johnson of Bellwood. He had active warrants from DuPage and Henry counties, and was arrested.

Vestibule vagrant takes a swing at building resident

A 57-year-old man living in an apartment near 23rd and Gunderson was about to air his dog before bed when he found a man lying asleep in the building’s common vestibule. When the dogwalker asked what he was doing, the man jumped up and tried to hit him. The dogwalker pushed the stranger away, causing him to break some glass by falling against a door. The vestibule-blocker was charged with one count of criminal damage to property.

An officer saw a silver 2001 Ford Taurus violate the left turn arrow while turning from southbound Ridgeland onto eastbound Cermak. Neither driver nor passenger bothered with seatbelts; the driver’s license was suspended and the car was towed.
Lamppost victim of bad driving

Police were sent to the 6900 block of Cermak, where an accident with a car left a lamppost lying on a sidewalk. The driver of a 1993 Acura, a 20-year-old Berwyn man, was cited for having no driver’s license or insurance, improper overtaking on the right and damage to city property.

A 1994 Ford van disobeyed the “no thru traffic” sign posted in an alley near Pershing and Elmwood. The driver, a 40-year-old Berwyn man, not only had a suspended license; he was wanted on two warrants under two other names. One warrant was for a Kane County burglary; the other for driving on a suspended license in DeKalb County.

Another $1000, people!

A 20-year-old man driving a grey Ford Crown Victoria erred in allowing his sound system to be heard 120 feet away as he drove at Cermak and Harlem. Violating the local noise ordinance cost Carlos Moreno of Cicero $500 – the price to redeem the impounded car. In the same location a couple of hours later, a 29-year-old Berwyn man met the same fate in his grey 2007 Chevy truck, which assaulted ears as far as 150 feet away.
