Chicagoans report men in two vehicles shot at them

An officer was stopped near 18th and Oak Park by three men in their 20s who were in a copper Buick LeSabre with the rear window smashed out. The men, all of Chicago, told the officer “we were shot at”. They said men shot at them from a maroon Chevy Astro and from a copper-colored Cadillac. When the officer asked where this occurred, the men said “Harrison and Laramie”. They were advised to contact the Chicago police department.

A red Dodge Dakota was blocking a good bit of the roadway on 26th at Ridgeland, forcing other cars to go around it. Police noticed the Dodge had prohibited red and white flashing tail lights and an illegal suspension system. When officers arrived, the suspension system was being used to lift the fornt end of the vehicle high in the air and drop the rear end nearly to the pavement. Driver Jose L. Uriostegui, 33, of the 2800 block of south Trumbull, Chicago, was cited for improper parking in the roadway, illegal use of flashing tail lights, illegal suspension system, tinted windows, no insurance and driving with license suspended.
Yellow Neon stopped after declining to do so earlier

A yellow 2004 Neon disobeyed a stop sign at 27th and Wesley. Driver Miguel Vaca, 22, of Cicero, was cited for that, and for driving although his license expired more than four years ago.
Woman takes car without permission

A 25-year-old woman from the 2100 block of Scoville told police her partner, a 42-year-old woman, had taken her Elantra without permission. She also let police know the older woman’s license was suspended. When car and woman returned from a visit to the post office, the 42-year-old was ticketed for driving with the suspended license.

A woman told police she was turning left into Cermak Plaza in her Pontiac when a tan Oldsmobile blew the red light at Cermak and Wenonah, struck her car and fled the scene. She noted the license plate number, enabling police to find driver Omar A. Trejo, 26, of Cicero. He was ticketed for disobeying a stop light, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license.

Police stopped 22-year-old Magdalena Figueroa of Cicero after she disobeyed a stop sign near Cermak. She was also cited for having no insurance and driving with a suspended license.
Little League shed, playground, mailbox, garages vandalized

Graffiti was found on two garage doors in the 1400 block and one in the 1500 block of Harvey; three in the 1300 block of Euclid; one in the 1300 block of Wisconsin; three in the 1500 block of Cuyler, and one in the 2200 block of Scoville. A mailbox was defaced in the 1400 block of Cuyler. Gang slogans were applied with marker to playground equipment in Freedom Park, 37th and Scoville. Someone also vandalized the shed behind home plate at the St. Mary of Celle baseball field at 14th and Euclid, using white spray paint to leave graffiti.
Disturbed woman creates disorder at post office

Witnesses at the post office on Cermak told police a 47-year-old woman entered the lobby, broke a glass vase, threw around a display pf shipping boxes and set off the fire alarm. The offender, a resident of the 2100 block of Harvey who is known to police as mentally unstable, is a continuing problem for local businesses. She was taken to MacNeal Hospital for psychiatric evaluation and will be charged with criminal damage to property.

Police near Windsor and Oak Park Ave. saw a male passenger in a car toss two Corona bottles out the window, breaking them on the pavement. The car was pulled over and Gustavo Matta, 38, of Hammond, IN was arrested for littering. The driver, Sylvanna K. Castellano, 31, of the 13400 block of Avenue K, Chicago, was charged with driving without a license on her person; no insurance, and illegal transportation of alcohol. Matta was found to be wanted by the U.S. Dept. of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (see http://www.ice.gov/about/index.htm) for removal from the USA. The agency, part of Homeland Security, was informed that Matta was being held for them.
Teen driver goes wrong way, tries to escape police

An officer stopped a green Ford Escape seen heading the wrong way on Cuyler. The car was pulled over at 21st and Elmwood after an attempt to flee police. The passenger was a 17-year-old Cicero boy. 17-year-old driver Samuel Verdin of Bolingbrook was charged with fleeing and eluding police; improper lane usage, no license and no insurance.

A woman reported someone broke a window of her Toyota SUV in the 2100 block of Lombard. She said she saw a Pontiac with four men inside, and saw one of the men throw something at her car.
In the 2700 block of Highland, someone threw a rock through the front window of a house.
Baby daddy beats up woman’s new boyfriend

Witnesses in the 1900 block of Harvey told police they saw a man drive up, jump out of his car and start a fight with a 22-year-old man of that block. The victim told police the offender was the father of his girlfriend’s child. The 26-year-old ex-boyfriend, a resident of the 2200 block of Highland, was charged with battery.
Tattooed dude flees burglary scene with bike

Someone broke into a garage in the 6500 block of 34th St., breaking a window and stealing a blue Huffy bicycle. The victim told police he saw the suspect fleeing westbound on Ogden. The suspect was described as a white male, 6 feet tall, wearing a grey shirt and jeans, with tattoos on both forearms.

Police stopped a too-loud white Ford Explorer in the 6500 block of 28th Place. When asked why so loud, the 24-year-old driver said, “cause I’m stupid. There were some girls I saw.” The ladies may also have seen him get a $500 ticket and watched as his SUV was towed away.
