Scrap-filled truck stopped

Many recent thefts of gutters and downspouts in the area led an officer at 27th and Clarence to pull over a red Ford pickup truck filled with scrap. The driver had no insurance for the truck and also lacked a Berwyn permit to collect refuse.
License reinstatement low on the to-do list

An officer in the 3600 block of East stopped a green Geo Metro with a cracked windshield. The driver, a 45-year-old man, has had his license suspended since August 2005.
Pitbull bites woman

A 52-year-old woman, told police she was on the 2500 block of Highland at 1:20 PM when an unsecured white pitbull bit her upper arm. After the bite, which did not break the skin, the victim saw the dog’s owner take the animal into a yard in that block. The owner was ticketed for having a dog at large.

Buildings in the 2100 blocks of Oak Park Avenue and Euclid were found defaced with gang graffiti.
Out-of-control SUV damages tree, other car

Tickets for damage to city property and improper lane usage were issued to a 21-year-old Berwyn man who tried to make a turn from Wesley onto 14th in his GMC Yukon but lost control. The Yukon struck a Toyota Corolla, then hit and damaged a tree in the parkway.
Vandalism on Clarence

A man in the 2300 block of Clarence told police that at some point in the past week, someone broke three front basement windows on his house, each 2 x 3 feet in size.
Rash of payphone thefts

A phone company technician alerted police to a payphone break-in at a restaurant in the 6300 block of Ogden. The technician found the phone had a broken lock; someone had removed the coins inside, then replaced the main body of the phone to make it appear normal. Shortly thereafter, the payphone at another restaurant in the 7100 block of Ogden was found in the same condition. The phone tech told police he knows of multiple such thefts across the south suburbs.
Suspended license + lack of seatbelt = two tickets and a tow

An officer stopped a silver Infiniti on Ridgeland near 26th because the driver was wearing no seatbelt. The 28-year-old was also driving on a suspended license and the car was towed.
Out of luck

With his car out of gas, a Cicero man, age 32, flagged down a Berwyn police officer for help. A check of his name revealed he was wanted in DuPage County for retail theft, so he was taken into custody.
Tuesday Morning Graffiti Roundup

A business in Cermak Plaza was marked with graffiti in black spray paint. In the 6800 block of Ogden, graffiti in both black and white paint was found. And a garage in the 2700 block of Wesley received black-marker graffiti. All of it was gang-related.
Berwyn man charged with inciting partygoers to act against police
Riverside police broke up an underage drinking party in the first block of Pine Avenue on April 20, and ended up issuing two citations for disorderly conduct, including one against a Berwyn man who allegedly tried to incite roughly 30 partygoers to attack the responding officers.
According to the report, officers saw 30 people in the backyard of a residence, some of whom fled the scene when police arrived or attempted to hide inside the house. A total of 22 citations were issued to individuals between the ages of 18 and 20 from Berwyn, Brookfield, Forest Park, Riverside, Joliet, LaGrange, LaGrange Park, Chicago, Woodridge, Franklin Park, Westchester and Oakbrook for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.
A resident of the home, Paul Bilek, 21, was cited for disorderly conduct for throwing the party. Matthew J. Artz, 21, of Berwyn, was cited for allegedly inciting people to act against the police.

Don’t want to fuss and fight

A man in the 1300 block of Wesley called police to say he had told his wife he no longer wished to argue with her, at which she hit him in the head with a remote control device. No charges were filed; the two agreed to stay in separate rooms for the night.
Sometimes money just goes out the window

A 21-year-old woman called police to report her apartment in the 1800 block of Harlem had been entered by a burglar sometime between 11 AM and 11 PM. The burglar entered the apartment through a window and stole $320. The officer noticed the window had a broken lock and cracked glass.
Injured pit bull captured

Police caught a pit bull found at large in the 6500 block of 26th Place. The dog was a female with facial cuts, no tags and no collar. She was taken to A-American veterinary for safekeeping.
Kia broken into during work day

A man told police his Kia was burglarized while parked during the day in the Vacin Fairway, 6600 block. The driver’s window was broken and the radio/CD player unit stolen.
