Someone put graffiti on the skate park and playground equipment in Smrz Park, using silver marker.
Theft foiled but suspect flees

Police responded to a theft at Circuit City at Cermak Plaza. The manager said a man had just stolen an HP printer and a Pioneer car stereo. He was pursued by store security. They recovered the items but did not catch the man, who fled east on Cermak. He was described as a black male, 6’4”, 180 lbs., wearing black jeans and a blue jacket.
Woman seeks protection from scary ex

An 18-year-old Berwyn woman told police her ex-boyfriend, a Chicago man, called her place of work at least ten times earlier in the day, although they broke up over two weeks ago. When she answered one of the calls, she says the ex told her he had seen her pull into the parking lot with another man, and that he should have pulled the man out of the car and beaten him up. He ended by threatening her. The woman feared for her safety. A check of the man’s rap sheet showed an extensive criminal history. He is also wanted in Wisconsin for parole violation related to a battery conviction. Police told the woman how to get an order of protection.

La Grange Park man’s car strikes ambulance

Paramedics from Berwyn ambulance 910 were preparing to transport a 92-year-old woman to MacNeal Hospital when they heard a loud bang. A silver 2000 Dodge Intrepid had struck the driver’s side door with its side mirror. The ambulance emergency lights were activated at the time of the collision. The driver, 54-year-old Richard J. Buscemi of La Grange Park, said an unknown vehicle had distracted him, causing him to swerve to the right. He was ticketed for
failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no proof of insurance and damage to city property.
Battery suspect caught with drug pipe near scene

Police answering a domestic disturbance call found a bleeding 24-year-old woman weeping on the floor of an apartment in the 1600 block of Ridgeland. She said “I think he broke my nose” in reference to her 38-year-old husband, who had fled the scene. He was described as wearing a blue Dallas jersey, and possibly headed for the 900 block of Menard in Chicago. Three children, ages one to five, were present during the incident. The suspect’s brother told police the man was last seen on a bicycle. When police saw a man answering the suspect’s description bicycling past the residence, they stopped him. The man gave a false name—that of his brother—at first. Next, he offered a different false name to police. He was wearing a sweatshirt and was reluctant to remove it for police. When he did, a blue Dallas jersey was revealed. During a patdown, police found a screened glass pipe, of the type used to smoke crack, in the man’s left sock. He was charged with domestic battery, obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Noisy Cadillac impounded

A 50-year-old Berwyn man’s car was impounded for excessive noise. The man, a resident of the 1900 block of Euclid, was stopped at his own corner when an officer could not avoid hearing the extremely loud sounds emitted by his silver 2002 Cadillac DeVille. He was give a ticket for the noise violation; the car’s trunk contained an amp and subwoofers.
Wanted man strolls up Euclid

Police in the 1900 block of Euclid recognized a man walking northbound as someone wanted by Oak Brook. The 35-year-old man, resident of the 2100 block of Oak Park Avenue, was positively identified at the police station and held for the Oak Brook warrant.

Police responded to a disturbance involving a 17-year-old girl in the 2400 block of Elmwood. They found a 17-year-old boy bleeding from a cut on his pinky finger. According to the girl, the boy —who lives in the 6700 block of 16th—was her boyfriend, who came over, knocked on the glass of the front door and broke it.

Pallet theft

A business in the 6200 block of Ogden had 27 wooden pallets, 4’ x 4’, stolen overnight.

An officer noticed a a man driving black 1995 Olds sedan in the 3200 block of Windsor alley between Wesley and Euclid. When the car reached the 3300 block alley, it was stopped. The driver told the cop he had no license, but produced for identification his Cook County inmate card. Driver T.J.D. Guzier, 19, of the 10600 block of S. Parkside, Chicago, had a suspended license and a very extensive driving record. He told the officer he was not actually “driving” but only “moving” the vehicle out of the alley. He was charged with driving through alleys, driving on a suspended license and not wearing a seatbelt.

Chicago man stopped for DUI

At Ogden and Harlem, a green sedan with temporary plates was seen speeding eastbound while weaving between lanes. An officer, with emergency lights activated, tried to stop the car, but it continued to speed eastward, weaving between lanes without signaling before making an unsafe turn northbound onto Home. During that turn, the car narrowly missed hitting the rear of a stopped tractor trailer. The officer was able to pull the car over at 36th and Home. Driver Samuel Guerrero, 31, of the 1000 block of S. Mayfield, Chicago, had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and difficulty locating his license in his wallet. When asked, he could not recall how many drinks he had consumed, and he failed numerous field sobriety tests. At the police station, his blood alcohol level was determined to be .114—higher than the legal limit of .08. He was cited for DUI, reckless driving, improper lane usage, not signaling turns or lane changes, making an improper turn, not having a front license plate and not wearing a seatbelt.

Drunken man charged with domestic battery

A woman in the 3200 block of Clarence called police when her live-in boyfriend came home drunk and argumentative. Given his state and his history of violence, the 20-year-old woman asked police to remove the man, who left without incident. At 3 AM, however, he returned and pounded noisily on the rear door of the apartment building. When the woman refused him entry, he punched and broke the glass in the door. Glass struck both the woman the infant she held in her arms. The baby was unhurt, but the mother’s face was cut. Police caught up with the man a block away. He was charged with one count of domestic battery.

Garage doors in the 2400 block of Euclid and the 2300 and 2500 blocks of Clinton were marred by painted graffiti initials. At Clinton and 23rd, all four corners of the block were defaced by images of a black spray-painted animal—this was photographed and immediately removed.
I come to ticket, not to praise him

An officer monitoring traffic at the intersection of 16th and Ridgeland saw a red 1997 Ford Taurus disobey the stop light. Driver Julio Cezar Garcia, 27, of Cicero, was ticketed for driving without a license, blowing the stop, wearing no seatbelt and driving too fast for conditions(it was raining). The car was towed.
