Surly group inflicts late-night disturbance on neighbors, but won’t cooperate with cops

October 3, 2008, 11:38 PM
Police were dispatched to the 3200 block of Highland on reports of a fight in the street, involving a man in a red shirt. Police located three women and a man in a red shirt, all sitting on the steps of a house on the east side of the street.  The man, age 23, said he was not involved, but the women were in a dispute with a group that already left.

The three women were, according to the report, “in disagreement about what had occurred” and “extremely uncooperative”.  One woman, from the 2200 block of Gunderson, apparently had an ex-boyfriend whose new woman showed up to start a fight.  The ex himself arrived in the company of a man who displayed a gun, then all fled the scene.  The woman herself claimed to be unable to describe the gun and asked police, “can you just go away?”

Three gang members arrested after gun-display call

October 3, 2008, 8:05 PM
Seven officers were sent to Cermak and Clarence after calls of a disturbance involving a brown van and the possible display of a gun.  The brown Chevy van was found at that intersection; Jonathan M. Rogers, 18, of Fairbury, was in the driver’s seat.  Rogers’ name came back “armed and dangerous” and “gang member”; he also had a suspended license, so the van was impounded.

Two other men involved in the disturbance were detained in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot at Cermak and East.  An off-duty Chicago police officer told Berwyn police he saw the disturbance, then saw men fleeing eastbound on Cermak carrying a tire iron and a chain.  He detained the men and called Berwyn police.

Rogers was charged with driving on a suspended license and without insurance.  The other two men, both self-admitted gang members, were Miguel A. Rcio, 18, of 1310 Maple, and Marcelo Cruz, 21, of 2347 Clarence.  Cruz was charged with reckless conduct.  Rico was charged with reckless conduct and permitting an unauthorized person to drive.

Victims say woman fled after threatening them with knife, Mace

October 3, 2008, 2:55 PM
That’s the spray kind, not the medieval kind.  Police came to the 1600 block of Gunderson after a 911 call reported a woman threatening somone with a knife in front of a residence.  A 35-year-old man told police he was home talking on his cell phone to a 35-year-old woman, who was on her way to his address.  But the call was overheard by the man’s 33-year-old sister, who apparently overheard some comments about herself to which she took exception.  As the 35-year-old woman pulled up in her car, she was met outside by the sister, who held a knife in one hand and Mace in the other.  The offender reportedly yelled and threatened the man, getting within two to three feet of him while holding the weapons.  According to the man, “I thought I was going to get cut”.  When the 35-year-old woman approached the offender, the offender raised the knife over her head as if to stab the woman.  The offender was not at the scene when police arrived.  Both victims signed complaints against Ericka Gordon, 33, whose address is the same as that of the victims.  When police ran Gordon’s name, they learned she was listed as the offender in a few other crimes in Berwyn.

The items in the bed of the Chevy pickup appeared to have been scavenged from neighboring garbage. Olvera was charged with driving unlicensed and uninsured, and with illegal scavenging.

Team shout-out an expensive mistake

October 3, 2008, 12:24 AM
