Man arrested for beating woman over cell phone call

April 29, 2007, 11:01 PM
Police responded to a disturbance in the 2800 block of Ridgeland.  They found a 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman.  The man’s story is that they fought over a call the woman received on her cell phone.  The man confronted her.  She denied recognizing the number of the caller.  The man then threw the cell phone, breaking it.  He tried to leave, but police came before he had the chance. But when police took the woman aside, she confirmed the cell phone stuff but added the man also grabbed and threw her down, kicked her in the ribs and punched her in the head.  She scratched his neck in self-defense.  After this, the woman told him to leave and began throwing his things out onto the lawn until police arrived.  The woman’s injuries were photographed and she was treated at MacNeal Hospital.  The man was charged with one count of domestic battery.

Shots fired, but nobody’s talking

April 29, 2007, 2:30 AM
After a call of “shots fired”, an officer came to the 1500 block of Oak Park Avenue and found broken beer bottles scattered all over 15th west of Euclid.  Witnesses said that as they returned from a bar to pick up kids from a birthday party on this block, a dark grey vehicle drove up “out of nowhere” and someone fired at least 10 to 12 shots, fleeing east on 15th and then north on Euclid. Officers found three spent shell casings and three projectiles in the alley of the 1500 block of Euclid/Oak Parl Avenue, as well as bullet holes in a car.  Police felt the witnesses were not being entirely candid in their recollections.  One witness, a 22-year-old Cicero man, said he did not want to say more in front of his dad.  But later, when detectives spoke with him alone, his story did not change.  He was told to call police if he decides to cooperate in an investigation of the incident.
