An employee at Proksa Park, 3001 Wisconsin, told police someone damaged an air-conditioning unit located outside the park’s service building.
Stop sign invisible to Berwyn man

A driver disregarded the stop sign at 27th and Lombard, inciting an officer to pull him over. The driver, a 22-year-old man from the 2600 block of Highland, was ticketed for the blown stop, driving without a license and without insurance.

Graffiti was found on a wall in the 6700 block of Ogden, consisting of initials done in black spray paint.

Woman wants break from male companion

Police were flagged down in the 1500 block of Elmwood where a man and a woman had been arguing. The 30-year-old woman informed police she wished to walk for a while to cool down, and she did not want the 42-year-old man to accompany her. Police conveyed her wishes to the man.
Instances of counterfeit money caught in Berwyn on June 18, 2007

A worker at the Marathon gas station, 16th and Oak Park, called police when a customer proffered a counterfeit $100 bill for a purchase. Worker and customer, a Chicago man, waited for police together. The bill was actually an altered $5 bill, with a hologram of Abraham Lincoln, that the customer said he received from a stranger outside a food store at Laramie and Chicago. The customer said a stocky black man, about 25 years old, asked him to change a $100 bill for him, so he did. Police confiscated the bill; the customer was advised to tell them immediately if he sees that man again.

An ice cream shop in the 6200 block of Cermak sold ice cream to a man who used a counterfeit $20 bill, which was not discovered to be fake until the man was gone.

A man bought groceries at the Berwyn Fruit Market, 3811 Harlem, using a fake $100 bill. The store manager knew him as a steady customer and vouched for him as not having done it intentionally. The man told police he had withdrawn four $100 bills from his bank in Romeoville the previous Saturday. All the counterfeit bills in this story were confiscated and stored as evidence.
Doorknob twiddler interrupted

A man in his kitchen in the 2400 block of Cuyler heard his rear storm door open, then heard someone fiddling with the inner doorknob. The resident looked out his window and saw a stranger standing on his deck between the storm and entry doors. When he confronted the stranger, the latter fled through the yard of the house across the alley on Ridgeland. The suspect is described as a white male, 6’1, thin and bald-headed, wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans.

Chicago speeder wanted downstate

An officer stopped a maroon Ford Expedition for doing 40 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Driver Luciano P. Ramirez, 33, of the 3900 block of south California, Chicago, was ticketed for speeding, then arrested and held for Sangamon County police, who had a warrant for him.
Rooster attack

A 41-year-old man from the 3500 block of Ridgeland told police he was attacked by a rooster while walking through the alley of the 1900 block of Wenonah/Wisconsin. The man subdued the bird to show police. Officers saw the rooster was not hurt, but the bird appeared to have been used for cockfights at one time.
Dog-in-the-manger charged with domestic battery

A young woman with a cut face and bruised arms told police her ex-boyfriend threw her against a wall, punched her arms and choked her so hard she vomited. A female friend at the scene, in the 2800 block of Ridgeland, got the man to stop and go away. Soon after, the offender phoned the friend and yelled “If I can’t have her no one can, I’m gonna mark her!” The man was arrested at his mom’s place in the 1500 block of Lombard in Cicero. He was charged with domestic battery.
Purple Pontiac impossible to pass

An officer at 21st and Highland saw a purple 1992 Pontiac Grand Am parked in the middle of the street so that no traffic could pass through. Driver Lejeanna D. Kelly, 27, of the 800 block of Monticello, Chicago, was ticketed for obstructing traffic, no seatbelt, no insurance and no license.
Chicago woman charged with shoe theft

Shoe Carnival security told police they caught a woman walking out with three pairs of unpaid for shoes. Justine S. Tovar, 20, of the 2800 block of south Avers, Chicago, was reportedly seen stuffing the shoes into an Old Navy bag before trying to leave. The total value of the shoes was $103.28. She was charged with one count of retail theft.

A man and his live-in girlfriend were arguing in the 1400 block of Elmwood when the woman threw a 12-ounce “Natural Ice” beer at his face. Police could see the man’s upper lip was bleeding and a front tooth was broken out. The woman was charged with one count of domestic battery.
Meat argument ends in battery

A 30-year-old Stickney man told police a worker at Justice Produce hit him in the face. The butcher at the grocery, 6901 Ogden, told police he and the complainant argued over the weight of the meat the man had just ordered. The assistant manager then intervened, so the victim also argued with him. The assistant manager reportedly slapped the Stickney customer in the face. Police charged manager Jorge Napoles, 35, of Chicago, with battery.
Kid, driver not safely latched in

Police stopped an unbelted driver in a green Camry at 26th and Lombard. A three-year-old child in back was not in a car seat or even a seatbelt. Driver Juan G. Mendoza, 32, of Cicero, was ticketed for not wearing his seatbelt, not properly restraining the child, no insurance and having a driver’s license that expired more than a year ago.
Shell Station Lotto tix stolen

An employee of the Shell Station at 7143 Roosevelt told police a man stole a clear display case containing Illinois Lottery tickets. The man got away with two $10 rolls, two $5 rolls, two $2 rolls and two $1 rolls of tickets. The suspect, described as a white man, 5’8”, about 35, with two broken front teeth, was wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts. He fled in a blue late model pickup truck driven by another white male. The witness noted the license number, which registered to a Robert S. Burkholder of Lanark, IL.
