Ransacked rooms

The victim of a residential burglary in the 1500 block of Scoville told police the crime must have occurred between 11 AM and 5 PM; the bedroom and office were ransacked.  Stolen were a laptop computer, a digital camera, a cell phone, jewelry and coins.

Street-drinking complaints

Police received numerous complaints from businesses near Oak Park Ave. and Cermak about drunken persons hanging around the area.  In response, an officer arrested William J. Ford, 39, of 1844 Clarence, charging him with disorderly conduct.

Ohio woman’s lunch loses its savor

An Ohio woman passing through town told police she stopped at Burger King, 6701 Roosevelt, for lunch.  She stated she parked her Toyota Corolla and took her wallet into the restaurant to pay for her food.  Her purse, however, she left on the car seat inside the locked vehicle.  Five minutes later, she returned to find the car had a broken window and the purse was gone, along with her cell phone, Ipod and GPS unit.

More BB damage to vehicles

A woman in the 1900 block of Cuyler reported a shattered window on her parked auto; the officer thought it was done via BB gun.

In the 6300 block of 21st, someone damaged the window of a gold Mercedes, apparently using a BB gun.

Van snoozer

Police approached a Chevy van whose driver was asleep at the wheel; the vehicle was stopped on westbound Pershing at Ridgeland.  Driver Juan R. Cervantes, 37, 6520 Pershing, was arrested because police found his license had been revoked. He was also charged with improper parking in the roadway and driving uninsured; the van was impounded.  Later, Cervantes was charged with criminal damage to property because police had to contact Aftermath to disinfect the holding cell after the prisoner urinated in it.

Robbed of the day’s take

A 53-year-old woman, manager of the dollar store in Cermak Plaza, told police she was robbed in the parking lot of Fifth Third Bank, 7112 Cermak. The woman said she parked in the west parking lot of the bank, exited her van and pulled out two bags of cash. One bag contained $4,000, the other $233.  The women tucked the bags inside her coat and began to shut the van door when a man grabbed her.  The offender shoved her against the van, grabbed the money and fled on foot northward.  The offender, she said, was a husky six-foot male white, dressed in black.

Barber not charged after razor-involved altercation with unarmed customer

Police were sent to a barbershop* at 6413 16th, after a reported altercation between a barber and a customer.  The customer, a 41-year-old man, had sold the 28-year-old barber a car.  An argument reportedly started because the barber was unhappy with the car and wanted his money back.  The victim said the barber, who was holding a razor, stated that if the victim’s daughter were not present, he would beat him up.  The barber allegedly pointed the razor at the victim.  The victim chose not to sign a complaint against the offender.

Leaf-raker finds wallet after burglar finishes with it

A gold Land Rover, parked in the 1400 block of Scoville, was found with a broken window. Missing from the SUV was his wallet, containing credit cards, ID and $1,500 cash.  The victim told police a woman unknown to him returned the wallet, saying she found it while raking leaves near 21st and Austin.

In the 2500 block of Gunderson, someone broke into a Buick and stole the stereo and CDs.
1:36 PM
Someone broke in and damaged the rear door of a business in the 6200 block of 26th.  The owner said a metal drum full of stripped copper was stolen.

Gunshots heard on Home

Multiple witnesses told police they heard gunshots—two shots followed by five or six more—in the area of the 1400 block of Home.

Police and an ambulance came to Sevilla’s bar, 6543 Cermak, to aid a woman complaining of pain.  The woman, a 35-year-old Cicero resident, drank a great deal, got up onto the bartop to dance, then fell off.

Shots fired

Multiple witnesses reporting hearing gunshots in the 2100 block of Gunderson alley; they said one gunshot was followed by a pause, then four more gunshots.

Pot-toting at Oak Park Ave/Riverside Drive

Police noticed three suspicious men standing near Oak Park Ave. and Riverside Drive.  One, a male white in a white jacket, fled on foot southbound.  A second man was sent on his way.  The third man, Larry Dillon II, 23, of 14507 south Dearborn, Riverdale, was found in possession of a bag containing five smaller bags of marijuana, and was cited for the offense.

Bud revisited

Callers complained someone was vomiting in the trash cans in the 3400 block of Elmwood, east side alley.  Police located 18-year-old Michael A. Roncone, 3425 Oak Park Ave.  Roncone appeared very drunk and was vomiting near residents’ trash cans.  He was charged with public intoxication.  Roncone told police the vomiting was the result of drinking “Bud on an empty stomach”.
