Police came to West Suburban and spoke to the victim, a 31-year-old Hillside man with a bump and a cut on his head. “Person with gun” reported, followed by arrests for cannabis and cognac
October 1, 2008, 4:31 PM
Callers reported three suspicious males standing beside a black pickup truck at 27th and Ridgeland, one—a male Hispanic with a bald head—holding a gun. Responding officers saw three men by a truck, as described, talking to the driver; one of the men, matching the gun-toter’s description, then moved slowly toward the truckbed and dropped into it what looked like a handgun. Police ordered the three men outside the truck to come to the front of the squad, and ordered the driver to exit the truck. The three men on foot complied. The driver, however, put the truck in drive and fled.
The bald man seen placing a gun in the truckbed was arrested; a patdown revealed a bottle of Hennessey cognac and several copper BBs. While police were running the three men’s names, one fled, but was caught trying to hide in a yard in the 6400 block of 27th. Martin Solis Jr., 19, of 1532 Gunderson, was charged with resisting an officer, escape, and possession of alcohol by a minor.
Meanwhile, the fleeing driver was stopped in the 6500 block of 26th Place. He was Anthony N. Morales, 18, of 6617 31st. The truckbed contained a .17.7 caliber BB gun. In Morales’s pocket, police found a plastic bag of marijuana. Lying on the driver-side floorboard was a plastic bag containing five regular-size plastic bags of pot, and eight smaller-size bags of pot. Morales told police the truck and the drugs belong to a friend. He said he fled because he knew the marijuana was present. He was charged with one felony count of marijuana possession.

Called to a fight at the Harlem/Roosevelt Shell station, police entered the alley behind the 7100 block of Roosevelt and spoke with a 28-year-old man from the 1200 block of Wenonah. He told police he went to the gas station store for beer when a man dressed in black began to talk to him “like he knew me”. But when the beer-buyer left the store, he said, a second man screamed gang slogans at him (one, apparently was [street number] m@!%#^f^@$#r! The victim said he responded to this by telling the screaming man to “shut the f^@$ up”, adding that he “don’t gang bang”. Next, the screaming man’s friends—including the chatty fellow from inside the store—exited a white Buick and began to fight with the victim; police could see a cut on the victim’s head.
