Burglary on Maple

A garage in the 3100 block of Maple was found burglarized; a blue bike and a battery-powered drill were stolen.

Skateboarders mess up concrete, create risk for church

The facilities manager for St. Leonard Church, 3340 Clarence, flagged down an officer to report he has repeatedly told skateboarders to leave the property.  The boarders nevertheless persist in doing tricks there.  He said they are wearing down the concrete steps, endangering themselves, and creating a liability problem for the church.

Three tickets after blown stop

A black Dodge truck disobeyed the stop sign at 15th and Home.  The driver, a 28-year-old man from the 1400 block of Clinton, had no license or insurance.

Chicago man reports BB attack

BBs were apparently used to shoot at a car and the man working on it in the 6400 block of Ogden.  Police found several fluorescent yellow and orange BBs nearby. Two hit the car’s windshield and one hit the 30-year-old man near the left eye.

Woman thinks neighbor used cameras to ogle her daughter

A woman in central Berwyn told police a week earlier she believed her 34-year-old neighbor was aiming his surveillance cameras at the backyard pool and deck where the woman’s 21-year-old daughter and her friends like to hang out.  Police checked daily, but determined the cameras were not in fact aimed at anything but the neighbor’s own property.

Loud car, wanted man both taken away

A black 2004 Cadillac CTS was stopped for violating the noise ordinance at 24th and Euclid, so the car was impounded.  Driver Daniel DePesa, 19, of Carol Stream was also found to have an active DuPage County warrant, so he was taken into custody.

Envelope with big bucks said to have vanished from purse

A woman reported she left her closed purse on a shelf inside a business in the 6800 block of Windsor.  When she returned, she said, the purse no longer held a sealed envelope containing $15,000.

Shirtless thief drops loot

A man from the 1300 block of Cuyler spotted a man and a woman in his yard; the man was carrying the lid to a Weber-type grill.  When seen by the homeowner, the thief dropped the lid and ran.  The couple fled through the alley and people’s yards.  The suspects were described as white, between 19 and 21; the man was 6’, thin, with short brown hair, blue pants and no shirt.

Broadview man’s license hasn’t been good for over a year now

An officer near 16th and Clinton stopped a blue Dodge minivan with expired plates and asked the driver for license and insurance.  Steve Nickens, 47, of Broadview, had not renewed his license in more than a year.  He was cited for having plates that were both expired and suspended; no license; no insurance; and failure to notify the Secretary of State of a change in address.

Mercedes damaged in garage break-in

A woman reported damage to her uncle’s Mercedes while it was parked in her garage in the 2100 block of Harvey.  The service door was found forced open.  The complainant believes the damage was done by her child’s father, a 25-year-old man she saw near the broken door.

Mitsubishi impounded for noise

A white 1997 Mitsubishi Galant with an unseatbelted driver was stopped in the 2300 block of Harlem, where it forced its stereo on hearers up to 150 feet away. THe drive, a 33-year-old man from the 1300 block of Harvey, was ticketed for the noise, no insurance and a suspended driver’s license.  The Galant was towed away.

Asleep at the wheel in rollover accident

A three-car accident at 16th and Oak Park Avenue involved a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 34-year-old Abdon Villa of Cicero.  Villa told police he was on his way to work and fell asleep while driving.  He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident; improper lane use; driving with no insurance, and failing to notify the Secretary of State of an address change.

Criminal damage to business, car

Someone shattered a front windowpane at the 26th St. 7-11, using two large rocks.  At 18th and Wisconsin, a white 2001 Ford Crown Victoria was found with a broken window.

A woman in the 2500 block of Kenilworth told police someone stole a concrete angel statue from her front porch.

Hit and run driver kills dog

A hit and run driver killed a Berwyn woman’s pet dog.  Peanut, a nine-year-old red Dachshund, was hit by a four-door grey vehicle in the 2500 block of Kenilworth.
