Man with cocaine shows it to man with cash as bike cops pull up

Bicycle patrol officers passing a Nissan Maxima in the 2100 block of Harvey saw the male passenger holding up a clear, knotted bag of a white substance, while the car’s driver could be seen holding cash in his hand. When the officers spoke to the men, the passenger dropped the clear bag, which tested positive for 1.4 grams of cocaine. The driver, a 26-year-old man living in the 1500 block of Harvey, told police he did not know his passenger had cocaine. The passenger—Jose L. Garcia, of the 4800 block of south Keeler, Chicago—told police he did not know the car contained any cocaine. Garcia was charged with one felony count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

A man in the 3100 block of Highland reported he parked his 1999 Ford Taurus in his alley for just five minutes while he ran in to get something. The car, which was left unattended with the keys in the ignition, was not there when the man returned.
Would-be tenant fails background check, makes profane threat against landlord

The owner of a rental property on Grove north of Cermak told police he received a threat from a woman unable to pass a background check in her attempt to rent an apartment in his building. When the man contacted her to arrange the return of her money-order deposit, the woman reportedly told him, “You better watch out, you white m----- f-----!” Because of the threat, police advised the landlord to have face-to-face meetings with this woman only in the lobby of the Berwyn Police Department.
Unlocked garage yields its contents to burglar

A resident of the 2500 block of Ridgeland reported an air compressor taken from an unlocked garage.
Schiller Park warrant fulfilled

A landlord in the 1300 block of Highland told police he had an ex-tenant hanging around and wanted him to leave. Police found the tenant, 53-year-old Zbigniew Tarczynski of Chicago, and learned he had an active arrest warrant out of Schiller Park. He was taken in to custody and held for Schiller Park police. Police got hold of a Polish interpreter so they could interview Tarczynski, but the prisoner became combative and refused to speak with her.
Front plate missing, muffler not doing the job

Police at 21st and Gunderson stopped a black Mitsubishi Eclipse with no front plate. Cicero driver Fernando Santana, 20, was also cited for no seatbelt, no insurance, driving on a suspended license and having a loud muffler.
Stereo no longer part of vehicle

A Ford parked in the 3500 block of Ridgeland lost a window and a Sony stereo to a burglar.

A garage door in the 3400 block of Cuyler was found with gang graffiti painted in red.
Big woman is decoy as men in urban camouflage steal beer

An employee of the 7-11 at 6757 26th reported a theft to police. The witness said two men and a heavy-set woman entered the store. The woman went behind the counter and grabbed four packs of cigarettes. While the clerk was holding her by the wrist, the two men grabbed a 12-pack of Modelo Especial beer, then all three fled in a car with a covered license plate. The witness described all three offenders as Hispanic; the men, he said, wore jeans and white T-shirts.
Taser needed to stop fight

Police arrived at a disturbance in the 1600 block of Harlem, where they found three men in disarray following a fight. The officers told the men to put their hands on the trunk of the car so they could be frisked. During the patdown, two of the men continued to yell profanities as the third man told them to stop talking. They angry men ignored this advice and called each other “M---- F-----!” , fighting until both were hitting each other on the ground. One of the fighting men spit in the other’s face. Because they would not stop hitting, and because one of the men was getting badly beaten, police had to use a Taser to break it up. The man who was losing the fight was screaming in pain. He told police his arm still hurt because he had been shot recently. All three were charged with mob action. They were Quincy Q. Miller, 22, of the 600 block of north Hamlin, Chicago; Gregory Q. Buchanan, 18, of Broadview; and Chris L. Buchanan, 21, of Broadview.
Hit and run driver’s plates noted

A man who parked his Nissan in the 1600 block of Ridgeland told police he was just walking away after parking when a Dodge SUV backed into his car, then fled north on Ridgeland and west on 16th. The plates of the offending car registered to a 46-year-old Westchester man, Ronald Bailey, to whom police sent a letter about the incident.
Orland Park man charged with battery in bar misbehavior

Police came to La Aduana/Checkpoint sports bar in the 6700 block of Cermak when an unruly patron punched a security guard in the face. He was being escorted out of the place after trying to start a fight inside, according to witnesses. Police could see 27-year-old Mohammed M. Safi of Orland Park was intoxicated and violent; he was arrested and charged with battery.
Teens overhear attempted burglary

A teenage boy and girl were sitting in a car inside a garage in the 1900 block of Harvey, listening to music, when they heard at least two voices outside and then noticed someone wiggling the service door knob. Next, they heard someone try to pull up the overhead garage door. The boy then opened the overhead door, and the suspects fled southbound in a car that had been parked behind the garage.
Copper worth hundreds stolen

A man in the 2200 block of Scoville reported someone stole a 15-foot copper downspout from his house. The item was worth $600.

A caller reported a drunken man riding a bicycle at East and Vacin Fairway. Police approaching the 50-year-old cyclist saw him holding a can of beer just before he and the bike fell down. The man did not know the date or the month and thought it was the year 2006. He was taken to the hospital.
