Flowers filched

Someone stole 12 geraniums from the 1800 block of Lombard; the flowers had been planted around a tree in a resident’s front yard.

Expensive stroller stolen

A 35-year-old woman reported a stroller stolen from her backyard in the 6400 block of Fairfield.  The brown and black Evenflo stroller was taken from its place by the back door.  It was valued at $200.

Officers explain dog-ownership responsibilities to pitbull owner

Police came to the 1400 block of Highland to check out reports of a pitbull attack.  The owner of a black Lab said she was walking her dog when the brown and white pitbull came out of a yard on that block and bit the Lab in the ear and neck.  The owner, a 17-year-old girl, told police she and her boyfriend live on the block and that neighbors are the ones responsible for leaving their gate open, freeing the pitbull.  Police explained that in fact she, and not the neighbors, is responsible for closing the gate and controlling the dog.  She received a ticket for allowing the pitbull to run at large.

Not just the windows this time

Someone apparently used a baseball bat or tire iron to break the windshield and damage the driver’s door of a silver Acura, owned by a 27-year-old woman. The car was parked in the 1600 block of Highland.

Car windows broken on Ridgeland, Sinclair

A Mustang and a Nissan Altima suffered broken windows while parked in the 3300 block of Ridgeland. In the 6500 block of Sinclair, the same fate befell a Chevy Lumina and a Nissan Sentra.

Bicycle removed from yard

Snake discourages continued search

A 27-year-old woman told police someone entered her flat in the 1900 block of Oak Park.  She found the front door open at 3:30 PM, and several items were missing.  Those items included an Xbox 360 with two controls; seven to ten games; luggage, and about 20 DVDs.  Police were unable to examine the bedroom because of a loose boa constrictor resting on a window ledge.

Stop sign disobedience

An officer stopped a 36-year-old man from the 2500 block of Ridgeland, after his red van disobeyed a stop sign at 28th and Lombard.  He was cited for the blown stop and for driving unlicensed.

Trespassing charge for man caught in building

A man residing in the 2200 block of Cuyler was charged with one count of criminal trespass.  He was caught in the foyer of a two-flat, trying to enter an apartment in the 2200 block of Gunderson.

Expired plate stop

An officer in the 3900 block of Oak Park stopped a 1996 Saturn with expired plates.  The driver, 28-year-old Tiffany T. Curry of Chicago, was ticketed for the expired registration and for driving with neither license nor insurance.

Gang graffiti removed

Gang graffiti found on the wall of a business in the 2500 block of Oak Park Avenue was removed. Another gang graffiti was removed from a garage door in the 2100 block of Wenonah.

Cermak speeder stymied

A red Honda Civic traveling west on Cermak was clocked by a Berwyn police officer doing 47 MPH in a 25 MPH zone near Ridgeland Avenue.  Driver Omar A. Calderon, 25, of Cicero, was cited for speeding and driving without a valid license.

Day-long parade of noise violators

At 38th and Harlem, police impounded the red Chevy Blazer, driven by 19-year-old Juan J. Urquizo of Hickory Hills, because it could be heard 150 feet away.  At 39th and Harlem, with a stereo system heard 125 feet away, was a Chevy truck driven by 25-year-old Daniel Aragon of Bolingbrook.  At 36th and Harlem, audible from 175 feet, was a red Impala driven by Demetrio Carbajal, 18, of Cicero.  Sporting tinted windows and a sound system heard 125 feet off was the 1994 Crown Victoria driven by Steven J. Colbert of Lyons.  The last sound impound of the night went to Cicero’s James V. Torello III, age 28.  He was stopped at 34th and East when an officer saw his Cadillac weaving across the center line of East Avenue. He also failed several field sobriety tests and received tickets for DUI, improper lane use, driving with a suspended license and not wearing a seat belt in addition to the noise violation.
