Arrested for butcher-knife threat

November 7, 2008, 11:10 PM
Police came to a gas station at 16th and Oak Park to speak with very upset 40-year-old man, who said his girlfriend pulled a knife on him and threatened to kill him.  The victim played several cell phone recordings of an angry female voice yelling at the man to leave their apartment; he said the voice belonged to the offender.  He described the weapon as a very large butcher knife with a brown handle.

Police proceeded to the victim’s apartment in the 1800 block of Grove, where they found a highly intoxicated woman.  Lying on a counter top was a butcher knife matching the victim’s description.  Chjeanette G. Peterson, 42, was arrested for aggravated assault.  Once in custody, Peterson claimed she called police first to report the victim hit her, but dispatchers confirmed no such call was received.

Woman accused of hairpulling, shoving baby-holding woman down stairs

November 7, 2008, 8:18 PM
A disturbance call brought police to 1414 Elmwood, where two women and a man were on the front lawn.  A 21-year-old Lyons woman told police she came to her ex-boyfriend’s house* to pick up diapers for their son.  While she was inside the house, 19-year-old Karla N. Reyna, 3641 53rd Ct, Cicero, entered as well.  The victim and the ex-boyfriend were downstairs; as the victim—with her child in her arms—tried to pass Reyna on the stairs, Reyna allegedly struck the victim, causing her to fall down the stairs.  The victim said Reyna then pulled out a fistful of her hair. Reyna was charged with battery.

Gang-slogan spouters threatened men with gun, nightstick

November 7, 2008, 2:30 PM
Two men, ages 18 and 17, were headed north, going door to door dropping off fliers advertising Pizza Platter restaurant.  When they reached 15th and Ridgeland, east side, they noticed a Nissan with three men inside.  The front seat passenger, whose greenish eyes caught the victims’ attention, rolled down his window and yelled, “What are you looking at, what are you about?” The victims ignored this, crossed 15th and headed eastbound. The offenders then pulled into the alley of the 1400 block of Ridgeland/Cuyler; the green eyed man exited and yelled gang slogans.  The victims, alarmed, ran to the next alley east, but so did the Nissan.  The driver got out, holding a police-type nightstick.  The green eyed man got out too, and put his hand to his right side, where the victims could see a black handgun.

The offenders informed the victims they knew where they lived and would show up to damage their homes if police were contacted.  The offenders got back into the car and drove away northbound.

The victims said the car was a late model dark grey Nissan with all-black wheels and blacked-out hubcaps.  The driver, they said, was a male Hispanic, 18-20 years old, wearing a black shirt and jacket and blue jeans; he had his hair styled into a mohawk.  The green eyed man, also 18-20, wore a black hoodie and a black hat.  The rear passenger wore a black hoodie, but held it so as to cover his face.  The victims told police they would be able to identify the car and its front seat occupants.

Landlord and pal have poor relationship with evictee

November 7, 2008, 8:33 AM
Police were dispatched to the rear of 2119 Euclid on reports of a fight in progress.  There, a 45-year-old man told police he was being evicted from the building.  Today, he alleged, the landlord and one of the landlord’s friends—both also residents of that building—were calling him names in the alley.  The friend reportedly grabbed him from behind, causing him to fall down, then shook the victim’s head violently.  Next, he said, the landlord emerged from the garage, grabbed him by his coat front and pushed him into the garage.  The victim said he broke free, only to have a second encounter with the landlord’s friend, which resulted in his meeting the ground once more.

Police spoke with landlord Donald J. Kusper, 39, 2119 Euclid, and Timothy Husir, 37, same address.  Husir admitted the name-calling but stated the victim warned him to “back off” and behaved as if he had a weapon, reaching into his pocket and pulling out an item.  The item turned out to be a cell phone.  Kusper and Husir were each charged with one count of battery.
