Two seatbelt stops reveal suspended licenses and more

A Cicero woman driving a silver Dodge Durango was stopped at Cermak and Highland for not wearing a seatbelt. Catina N. Smith, 30, was ticketed for that and driving on a suspended license. And in another seatbelt-safety traffic stop at the same intersection, police smelled marijuana coming from a 2006 Dodge Charger. Police recovered a “blunt” when searching the car. The driver, Manual Carrillo, 23, of Cicero was ticketed for driving with his license suspended, wearing no seatbelt, having no front license plate and marijuana possession.
Fire eats Ford, tries to gobble garage

The Berwyn fire department extinguished a fire that fully engulfed a Ford truck found in the 1900 block of Clarence/Wesley alley. A nearby garage was damaged. Moments before the fire began, a witness told police, a suspicious person was seen driving in the alley: a man described as white, about 30, heavy, wearing a black baseball cap.
Bold raccoons stake claim to yard

A resident of the 3500 block of Oak Park complained to police that multiple raccoons are taking over his front and back yards. Police set a trap for them.
Theft thwarted

A call of a theft in progress sent police to Ace Hardware, 6604 Cermak. Police arrived to find a brown truck with 10 wooden pallets inside, visible through the truck’s window, and stopped the truck. Armando Velasques, 22, of Chicago and 44-year-old Clemente Flores, 41, were inside the vehicle. Velasques spontaneously stated that he and Flores took the pallets from the Ace parking lot. The owner will sign complaints against them.
Broken window but no burglary

A 2000 Acura sedan was found in the 6400 block of Fairfield with its front passenger window broken, but nothing missing from inside the car.
Door damaged

A woman living in the 1900 block of Kenilworth reports that on May 8th at noon she heard the glass break in her back door, although nobody came in.
Egging

Juveniles are suspected of egging a house in the 3800 block of Scoville.
Skate park graffiti

Some old graffiti was found on benches at the skate park, Maple and 15th.
Forced listening blissfully over for a time

A 1999 Jeep forced its driver’s idea of music on everyone within 100 feet of 26th and Oak Park. A large speakerbox was found in the rear of the vehicle. It was impounded, and the 23-year-old man driving – a resident of the 1400 block of Grove – received a noise violation ticket.
Burglar tries a couple of garages

A resident of the 3700 block of Oak Park reported someone damaged the doorknob and deadbolt on his garage. Police could see pry marks, but the offender did not get inside. While police were on the scene, a neighbor approached and reported someone pried open his garage door.
Car theft on Grove

A Maywood man reported his car was stolen overnight from the 1900 block of Grove.
Out-of-state driver gets bad impression

An Ohio motorist told police his car windshield was hit by a red paintball as he drove on Harlem.

Beans nearly set building on fire

A pot of beans left on a stove filled an apartment with smoke, but firefighters and police got to the building in time to prevent more damage. The building was in the 1800 block of Elmwood.
Barking dog allegedly used as weapon

A man reported his neighbor leaves his dog outside barking and refuses to make it stop. He said the dog owner harasses him verbally and leaves the dog out there to spite him. Police will ticket the dog owner.
Copper thief does it again

A copper downspout was taken from a garage in the 7100 block of 31st; this is the second one taken from this address.
