14-year-old boy caught running around lowered train gates

A boy from the 2400 block of East crossed the tracks at East, ignoring the lowered gates and other warnings.  He was taken into custody and ticketed for violating railroad safety. His mother came to pick him up.

Copper downspout taken

A homeowner in the 3400 block of Kenilworth says a 10-foot section of copper downspout was taken from his property.

Noise ordinance violation fined

A Berkeley man’s Acura was impounded. It was so loud, it could be heard 175 feet away as it was driven in the 1200 block of Harlem.  34-year-old Bryant Q. Williams was given a $500 ticket and the car was towed.

SUV no longer jumpin’ for Julian

The sound system of a 2000 Ford Explorer at Harlem and Roosevelt could be heard 200 feet away.  The driver, 31-year-old Julian Perez of Cicero,was cited for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance, and the SUV was impounded.

Frequent fence-jumping permitted by pitbull owner

A neighbor complained to police that a 21-year-old woman has a white pitbull that jumps over the fence from its own yard into hers and has done so repeatedly.  The owner was given a ticket for having a dog at large.

Arrest made in hit and run

The victim of a hit-and-run accident in the 6200 block of Cermak said the offender drove a grey Mitsubishi Galant.  The Galant was found in the Vacin Fairway at Highland.  The victim positively identified driver Rigoberto Brito, age 23, of Cicero.  He was charged with improper lane usage, leaving the scene, no valid license and no insurance.

Noisy Neon taken from unlicensed driver

An officer stopped a 2001 Dodge Neon with a sound system heard 225 feet away.  The 18-year-old driver, Eduardo Garcia of Chicago, had no valid license and was ticketed for that too.

Garage pried open

Someone entered a garage in the 2400 block of Scoville by prying open the service door; the fender of the minivan within was found dented.

Smoked sausage

Police and fire personnel came to a basement flat in the 6300 block of 13th, from which smoke was pouring.  Entering the place, they found the tenant asleep in his bed.  Smoke came from a Polish sausage on the stovetop that had begun to burn.

Street hosts screaming men, disorderly woman

A fight in front of Windsor Lounge, 6814 Windsor, left two men with bleeding faces screaming at each other in the street.  One man, a 23-year-old from the 2400 block of East, said three guys punched him when he left the bar.  He pointed out one of them:  a 27-year-old Cicero man.  Bar security agreed the Cicero man started it, but his story was that as he waited outside the bar for his sister to emerge, the younger man punched him. Both men were very drunk.  The Cicero man was charged with one count of battery.  The victim’s sister, also drunk, yelled at police.  She was told to leave quietly, but she refused and was cited for disorderly conduct.

Drunk times three

A hit-and-run was reported in the 3400 block of Wisconsin.  A witness heard a car strike a parked car, then drive away.  Police located a white Ford Focus stopped in the 3300 block, and spoke to the driver.  He was a 25-year-old man from the 6800 block of 32nd St.  He carried no license or insurance.  He also had bloodshot, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol.  Asked whether he had been drinking, he said “Yes, I had four beers.” He failed several field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of .281, more than three times the legal limit of .08.  He received tickets for leaving the scene, failing to give information, no license on his person, no proof of insurance and DUI over .08.

Car left on blocks in alley leads to tow call

Police received a complaint about a gold Oldsmobile up on blocks in the alley of the 1300 block of Wisconsin. The owner, a 25-year-old woman from that block, said her boyfriend had worked on the car all day and was going to finish in the morning. It was explained to her that cars cannot stay in the alley all night and furthermore that this is a hazard.  The woman refused to call for a tow herself, so the officer did it for her.  A check of the plates showed they went to a different car.  The woman was ticketed for parking in the alley, misuse of plates, and having no Berwyn sticker.

Vandals deface garages, bus

Garages in the 2700 blocks of Harvey and Lombard, and a bus – with the graffiti found still wet – parked in the 6400 block of the Vacin Fairway.

Chicagoan’s car towed for blocking sidewalk

An officer saw a black Lincoln parked so as to completely block the sidewalk at the Murray’s lot, 38th and Maple.  It was registered to a Maria Garcia of Chicago, and was ticketed and towed.
