Suspicious youth, possible gunfire

Police received complaints of youths hanging out in the 1900 block of Kenilworth.  En route to the location, dispatchers informed officers of an additional report of shots fired.  Nothing was found.

Gun found after armed robbery behind restaurant

A Cicero man told police he was robbed by a gunman behind Seneca restaurant, 6544 Cermak; the victim had a bruised face and scratched arms.  He said a man confronted him outside the back door of the restaurant and tried to get him to go somewhere with him, but the victim refused.  At this, the victim said, the assailant pulled a gun from his waist.  They struggled, and the gun struck the victim in the forehead.  The victim was able to knock the gun to the ground, whereupon he picked it up and ran inside Seneca with it, just as the robber began calling out for assistance from unseen accomplices.  Police recovered the gun, a black Steyr .40 caliber handgun.  The victim said he can identify the offender, and described the armed robber as a male black, about 18, with short black hair and brown eyes, dressed in a red shirt and a black jacket.

Alsip man gives ill-advised order to cop

Complaints of a drunken man pacing the block brought police to 18th and Oak Park.  An officer approached Eyad Awad, 27, of Alsip; Awad appeared to be under the influence of some substance or other, with a staggering gait and bloodshot eyes.  When the officer asked what was up, Awad reportedly answered “Get the f^@#& back into your car and drive away from here,” adding further remarks of a belligerent nature. Awad was charged with public intoxication.

Gang graffiti

Gang graffiti was found on two garage doors in the 3500 block of Scoville.  More graffiti was located at the Metra station at Harlem and Windsor.

Quiet, for now

Police stopped a white Monte Carlo in the 6200 block of Ogden because the car violated Berwyn’s noise ordinance by playing its stereo so loudly it could be heard 200 feet away.  The car was impounded; driver Jason Christopher Lewis, 22, of the 100 block of south Mayfield, Chicago, received the $500 ticket.

A loud black Cobalt was impounded after a noise stop at Ridgeland and Cermak.  The ticket went to driver Matthew Ocampo, 21, of Chicago.
7:11 PM
In the 6400 block of Cermak, police stopped a noisy Impala and impounded it.  Driver Mario Guevara, 19, of Cicero was cited for noise, and also driving sans license or insurance.
7:15 PM
At Highland and 21st, an excessively loud Caprice was stopped and towed away.  The noise ticket went to driver Garry K. Studivant, 24, of Oak Park.

Impounded for noise:  a Pontiac Grand Am, stopped at 13th and Grove.  Ticketed for the offense:  driver Moises Solis, 22, of Cicero.
11:57 PM
Neighborhood complaints of noise brought police to Mariscos Acapulco, 6326 Cermak.  Officers agreed it could, indeed, be heard more than 75 feet away.  The noise citation was issued to owner Margarito Rodriguez, 41, of the 2200 block of Maplewood, Chicago.

Vandals use rock, paint, computer parts

Police found planters knocked over in the 6700 and 6800 blocks of Cermak.  AT 6806 Cermak, someone broke an 8 by 4 foot front window of a business, apparently by flinging a computer hard drive at the glass.

An 18-year-old Morton West student told police someone put neon green paint or something like paint on the finish of his car while it was parked in the school parking lot.  He said he had to wash it three times to get it clean.  But when he parked in the lot again, the car got the same treatment once more.

After calls complaining of a drunken man bothering people, police came to the 1200 block of Euclid, where they found 43-year-old Jose Briones, a resident of the 6700 block of 16th.  Briones, who appeared intoxicated, stated he was visiting a friend on the block.  But witnesses said he was walking down the block arguing with people.  Briones was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Parolees cited after gang loitering complaints

WEDGE Task Force officers in the 1900 block of Harvey noticed a man loitering by a residence.  He had already been advised not to loiter there because of many complaints of gang and drug activity nearby, and because of recent gang violence.  Police learned Jose A. Rodriguez, 20, of the 1800 block of Harvey, was currently on parole.  He was charged with loitering.

Answering a complaint about gang loitering at 37th and Grove, police located a group and recognized one man as a gang member. The man’s breath smelled to police of alcohol.  Underage 18-year-old Keith A. Bryson of Lyons stated he had consumed a few beers. Bryson, who is on parole, was arrested and charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Noise violators

A blue Jeep was stopped in the 1800 block of Elmwood for violating the noise ordinance.  It was impounded; the $500 ticket went to driver Luis S. Garcia, 42, of the 2300 block of Clarence.

At Lombard and Cermak, police curbed a silver Monte Carlo for excessive noise.  Driver Irwin W. Shaw, 28, of the 6900 block of Roosevelt, Oak Park, refused to sign the $500 citation, and the Chevy was impounded.
7:58 PM
A too-loud Chevy Avalanche was stopped in the 2100 block of Highland. Driver Sergio Benavides, 25, of Cicero, was charged with the violation and the truck was impounded.
8:40 PM
From the 2100 block of Oak Park to the 1800 block of Kenilworth, police could hear the stereo of a black Honda two-door.  It was impounded, and the noise ticket went to driver William M. Wright, 24, of the 1800 block of Kenilworth.

Pervert sighted, but nobody caught

A 911 call brought police to 35th and Kenilworth, with a report of a man exposing himself to a woman.  The victim, a 21-year-old Chicago woman, told police she was walking westbound on the north side of 35th when she saw a man walking toward hear.  As he passed, the man smiled at her.  When she turned to look back, the man undid his belt, opened his pants and grabbed his genitals.  The victim called 911 and followed the offender as far as the 3500 block of Grove, where she lost sight of him after he walked westbound between two houses.  The victim told police she can identify the man; she described him as a male black, about 30, 5’10”, 180 lbs, medium build and bald, wearing blue jeans and a baby blue polo shirt.  Police searched the area but found nobody.

Gang graffiti and symbols, done in blue paint, were found on an overhead garage door in the 1900 block of Kenilworth.

In the 2400 block of Oak Park, someone defaced a large stone with black spray paint.

An overhead garage door in the 3500 block of Scoville was found with gang graffiti.

Break-in victims lose cash, jewelry, pet

The back door of an apartment building was damaged when someone tried, but failed, to force it; this was in the 6700 block of 16th.

A resident of the 3400 block of Oak Park reported finding the bedroom ransacked, and jewelry and cash totaling $1,000 missing. A nearby witness saw a man knocking on doors and windows at the apartment building, then saw him kick in the door and enter an apartment, prompting a call to police.  He was described as a male Hispanic in his 20s, bald and stocky, wearing a white muscle shirt with black lettering.

A resident of the 2600 block of Wesley found the screen door cut and basement window tampered with in an apparent burglary attempt.
5:26 PM
A home in the 3200 block of Wisconsin was found ransacked.  The door was standing open and $400 was missing.
8:51 PM
A woman in the 2400 block of Gunderson found the rear door of her apartment damaged, and the flat ransacked.  Stolen were DVDs, CDs, a gold ring and the victim’s pet ferret.

Rock-throwing, gang graffiti, and a business slow to clean off the scribbles

Someone threw rocks at a Volkswagen in the 1800 block of Kenilworth, denting it.  Local children were seen throwing rocks in the street the previous day.

Police issued a local ordinance ticket to a business at 6735 Cermak.  The building had graffiti; the city sent a letter giving the business seven days to remove the graffiti, but that never happened. Still there.

Gang graffiti and symbols of various street gangs were found on four garage doors in the 2300 block of Highland/Cuyler.

Loud vehicles impounded for noise violation

Police stopped a red Buick at Cermak and Grove because the car could be hear 200 feet away.  Driver Michael A. DeJesus, 34, of the 5500 block of south 24th, Chicago, was cited for noise and driving unlicensed; the car was impounded.

A black Buick sedan, heard more than 150 feet away, was stopped in the 2300 block of Home.  Driver Brandon Bartolomew, 18, of the 3600 block of Ridgeland, received the $500 noise ticket, and the car was impounded.

Shots fired, shell casings found

Various callers reported hearing multiple shots fired in the alley behind the 1900 block of Oak Park/Grove. A witness heard shots, looked out onto the Oak Park Avenue side and a saw a dark car, possibly an Impala, stop. A man in a white shirt entered the vehicle, which traveled into the 1800 block of Oak Park/Grove alley. Callers told police they believed the occupants of the car were being shot at by someone, and were shooting back. Police found eight spent .45 shell casings, two spent .22 shell casings and one live .22 round at the scene.

A man in the 1200 block of Cuyler told police he heard a loud noise, then found his corner window with a hole in the screen and a .45 caliber bullet lying between the windows; the frame was damaged.
