Burglars stopped in mid-attempt, escape empty-handed

October 4, 2008, 2:34 AM
A man in the 2600 block of Harvey noticed a light on in his garage.  Thinking his elderly father might be there, he went out to investigate and found the garage service door open.  Inside the garage, a strange man sat in Dad’s car; a second stranger stood beside the car.  When the homeowner asked “What are you doing?” the two intruders fled through the open overhead door, running south through the 2600 block of Harvey/Highland alley.  The homeowner described the offenders as two male whites wearing jackets; the one seen in Dad’s car was 5’10” to 6 ft tall, with short hair and a leather jacket; the homeowner told police he can identify the man.  A toolbox and a bicycle, found outside the garage, should have been inside it, according to Dad.

Fight-pickers show guns, one victim won’t talk about it

October 4, 2008, 3:44 AM
Police were sent to a restaurant at 6831 Ogden on reports of a fight and men displaying guns.  When officers arrived, a man inside the entrance silently pointed northward to indicate the directions in which the offenders fled.  Inside the restaurant, the first victim told police two men “pulled a gun” on him.  He said they tried to pick a fight, getting up from their table and approaching him and a companion at his.  Both men reportedly displayed handguns, then ran out and headed north.  The victim grew uncooperative and refused to give additional information, pronouncing it “a waste of time”.  But his companion, a 25-year-old Cicero man, was able to describe the offenders.  He said they were two male Hispanics, both about 5’10” and 180 lbs, wearing jeans and toting gun; one man wore a white hoodie, the other a black one.
