Berwyn impounded 35 cars during the month of April for violating the local ordinance that prohibits noise heard over 75 feet away, thus earning $17,500 for the city.

Vandals mess up car, flower pots

Unknown persons removed the driver’s sideview mirror from a 2002 Cadillac parked in the 2100 block of Clinton. Someone also tipped over four outdoor flowerpots, cracking one.
Man arrested for beating woman over cell phone call

Police responded to a disturbance in the 2800 block of Ridgeland. They found a 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman. The man’s story is that they fought over a call the woman received on her cell phone. The man confronted her. She denied recognizing the number of the caller. The man then threw the cell phone, breaking it. He tried to leave, but police came before he had the chance. But when police took the woman aside, she confirmed the cell phone stuff but added the man also grabbed and threw her down, kicked her in the ribs and punched her in the head. She scratched his neck in self-defense. After this, the woman told him to leave and began throwing his things out onto the lawn until police arrived. The woman’s injuries were photographed and she was treated at MacNeal Hospital. The man was charged with one count of domestic battery.

An 18-year-old was driving a gold 2002 Acura that could be heard 100 feet away near 22nd and Clarence; he was ticketed and it was towed. In the 6700 block of Cermak, heard 200 feet away, was a 2004 GMC Yukon. It was impounded, and 25-year-old Nickolas D. Gonzales of Cicero fined $500. An officer at 16th and Cuyler heard “loud, thumping bass” well beyond 75 feet away from a 2008 white Cadillac CTS, which was impounded. The fine went to driver Rofael Ortega, 20, of Cicero. Another Cicero man, 19-year-old Valentin Garcia, had his 2001 Buick LeSabre impounded when an officer at 22nd and Scoville could hear loud music 150 feet away from the car; he also got a ticket for driving without a license. And a man cranking the tunes at 22nd and Ridgeland got his car impounded. The 40-year-old lives in the 1400 block of Wesley and was fined; the noise could be heard 200 feet away.
Man believes fellow tenant stole his car

A man in the 2400 block of Clarence reported another tenant stole his car. The car had been parked in the yard, and the gate locked with a bicycle cable. The 26-year-old woman’s boyfriend tipped off the car owner that the woman had stolen the car and taken it to her grandma’s place in Chicago.
Dog bite reported by Cicero woman

A 46-year-old Cicero woman reported she was bitten by a black and brown German Shepherd mix running loose in the 1500 block of Lombard. She thought the dog came from the 1400 block of Scoville. The dog bit her left arm, leaving red scratches but no break in the skin. Owner and dog could not be found.
Forest Parker’s car too loud for Berwyn

A Forest Park man lost his car to the noise ordinance when police were able to hear the sound system 220 feet away as he drove in the 2200 block of Harlem. 29-year-old Valerio Carillo was fined $500 for the noise violation and the car was towed.
Purple car has suspended plates, driver has suspended license

An officer spotted a purple Ford 4-door headed west on Cermak with plates that had expired the previous November. When stopped at Cermak and Kenilworth, the driver could not produce a license or insurance. The plates proved to be suspended for insurance violation. Driver Velestal J. Forte, 32, of Maywood, was ticketed for the above and for driving on a suspended license.

Car on Windsor stolen

A woman reported she parked her black 1995 Toyota 4-runner in the 6500 block of Windsor, but awoke to find it had been stolen.
Shots fired, but nobody’s talking

After a call of “shots fired”, an officer came to the 1500 block of Oak Park Avenue and found broken beer bottles scattered all over 15th west of Euclid. Witnesses said that as they returned from a bar to pick up kids from a birthday party on this block, a dark grey vehicle drove up “out of nowhere” and someone fired at least 10 to 12 shots, fleeing east on 15th and then north on Euclid. Officers found three spent shell casings and three projectiles in the alley of the 1500 block of Euclid/Oak Parl Avenue, as well as bullet holes in a car. Police felt the witnesses were not being entirely candid in their recollections. One witness, a 22-year-old Cicero man, said he did not want to say more in front of his dad. But later, when detectives spoke with him alone, his story did not change. He was told to call police if he decides to cooperate in an investigation of the incident.

Forgotten stash brings felony charge

A Buick Riviera with only one working headlamp was noticed driving westbound on 25th near Gunderson. The driver, 19-year-old Alfredo Sanchez of Cicero, told police he had no license. In reality, his license was suspended. He was arrested, and a custodial search turned up a clear plastic bag of white powder in his wallet, which tested positive for cocaine (5 grams). After being read his rights, the man said he used to use cocaine and forgot it was there. He was ticketed for the driving offenses and charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance.
Snowblower stolen from garage

Someone entered a garage in the 2300 block of Cuyler through the side door, which does not have a working lock, and removed a snowblower. Nothing else was taken.
