Gang graffiti removed

Gang graffiti found on the wall of a business in the 2500 block of Oak Park Avenue was removed. Another gang graffiti was removed from a garage door in the 2100 block of Wenonah.
Cermak speeder stymied

A red Honda Civic traveling west on Cermak was clocked by a Berwyn police officer doing 47 MPH in a 25 MPH zone near Ridgeland Avenue. Driver Omar A. Calderon, 25, of Cicero, was cited for speeding and driving without a valid license.
Day-long parade of noise violators

At 38th and Harlem, police impounded the red Chevy Blazer, driven by 19-year-old Juan J. Urquizo of Hickory Hills, because it could be heard 150 feet away. At 39th and Harlem, with a stereo system heard 125 feet away, was a Chevy truck driven by 25-year-old Daniel Aragon of Bolingbrook. At 36th and Harlem, audible from 175 feet, was a red Impala driven by Demetrio Carbajal, 18, of Cicero. Sporting tinted windows and a sound system heard 125 feet off was the 1994 Crown Victoria driven by Steven J. Colbert of Lyons. The last sound impound of the night went to Cicero’s James V. Torello III, age 28. He was stopped at 34th and East when an officer saw his Cadillac weaving across the center line of East Avenue. He also failed several field sobriety tests and received tickets for DUI, improper lane use, driving with a suspended license and not wearing a seat belt in addition to the noise violation.
Chicago man gets four tickets

A gold Chrysler Concorde was stopped in the 1400 block of Cuyler for having no front plate. It also had a rear plate held only by a quick-release nut. The driver, Evelio Raygoza, 24, resides in the 2700 block of north Kostner, Chicago. He was cited for improper use and display of registration, driving without a license and having no proof of insurance.
Cicero woman stopped for lack of brake lights

Tammi A. Danhoff, 35, of Cicero, was stopped in the 6500 block of Ogden and cited for defective brake lights, no seat belt and driving with a suspended license.
First impounded car of the day

A 2003 Ford Focus audible from a distance of 200 feet was impounded in the 3200 block of Ridgeland. The ticket was given to driver Jose Mercado, 20, of the 2300 block of north Springfield, Chicago.
Last impounded car of the day

An officer pulled over a white Chevy pickup for violating the noise ordinance and asked the driver why he kept the stereo on so loudly even after being pulled over for that very offense. Driver, Adalberto Raygoza, 19, of Cicero, told the officer it was too late to turn it down so he just left it at the same volume.
Beer thief flees gas station

An employee of Citgo at 1337 Harlem reported a man stole two 12-packs of Miller Lite, then fled in an Impala or Crown Victoria sedan.
Opossum invasion

A woman in the 3100 block of Scoville reported several opossums in her yard. Police caught two in traps and will attempt to trap the remaining animals.
Cicero man ticketed in crash

A driver involved in an accident at East and Cermak received several citations. Mario Ramos Guerarra, 21, of Cicero, got tickets for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident; failure to yield while turning left; driving with an expired license and driving without insurance.
Pitbulls at large

Police caught a brown pitbull at large with no tags in the 1500 block of Gunderson/Elmwood alley. The owner, a 74-year-old woman from the 1400 block of Gunderson, received two tickets. Two hours later, a grey pitbull nipped at an officer trying to capture it near Oak Park Ave. and Riverside Drive. The owner, a woman from the 2300 block of Oak Park, got a ticket.
No belt, no carseat, no license

A 57-year-old man from the 1300 block of Gunderson was stopped in the 1600 block of Gunderson for not wearing his seatbelt. The man could show no license or insurance, only a Mexican ID. He was ticketed for no seatbelt, no license and not restraining a child under age 8. His 1998 Ram pickup was towed.
Unsafe scrap truck

A scrap truck, with its bed loaded with junk, was stopped in the 3400 block of Clinton alley for having a cracked, obstructed windshield. The driver, 42-year-old Javier Hernandez of the 2800 block of west Cullerton, Chicago, was ticketed for the windshield, driving an unsafe vehicle and having a driver’s license that expired over a year ago.
Afternoon noise impoundments

A black Cadillac Escalade could be heard 90 feet away as it traveled in the 6900 block of Cermak. Driver Danny Alejandre, 17, of Cicero, was ticketed for the noise violation. Later, a white Trailblazer was impounded for noise in the 2300 block of Home. The ticket went to Lyons driver Victor Ruiz, Jr.
Felony drug charge for Melrose Park man

A man at Citgo, 16th and Ridgeland, alerted police to a man in a Buick seen rolling a joint by a gas pump. An officer stopped the Buick and noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the car. The driver, 21-year-old Jonathan Maratto of Melrose Park, was asked if he had anything he should not have. He responded, “I only have a roach in the ashtray.” He gave permission for a search of the car. Police found the burnt roach, as well as a clear bag of marijuana under the driver’s seat, a digital scale, and an open box of clear plastic bags sitting in plain view on the passenger seat. The total weight of the pot of 20.9 grams. Maratto stated he does not know the person who sells him the pot, but can reach him by cell phone. He told police he gets the marijuana, divides into smaller bags and sells it to friends at parties for $20 each. He was charged with one count of unlawful possession and one felony count of possession with intent to sell.
