A four-decades-old problem continues

Police responding to a disturbance in the 2600 block of Harvey found a man angry with his son. The 48-year-old son, who lives with him, refused to clean his room.

Vandals used black marker to write on a concrete wall at the 15th and Maple pool. Marker was also used to apply gang graffiti on a garage door in the 1900 block of Harvey. Police removed all of the above markings.
What’s iron and gone by morning?

Patio furniture was stolen from a woman living in the 1500 block of Wisconsin. The cast-iron set included a round table and four chairs.
Lyons man’s loud car taken away

An officer 150 feet from a gold Chrysler Concorde could hear its loud sound system, and stopped the car in in the 6800 block of Cermak. Driver Luis Fernando Alvarado, 21, of Lyons also had no driver’s license.
Copper thieves among us

During the night, someone stole an 8-foot copper downspout from a garage in the 3500 block of Euclid.
Flying eggs

A 45-year-old man from the 3400 block of Kenilworth told police he was in his basement when he heard a noise upstairs. He found someone had thrown an egg at one of the rear windows of the house. Later in the morning, a woman in the 3700 block of Euclid also reported her house was egged.
Problem of housekeeping, not theft

A man in the 3700 block of Wenonah reported he found his two shotguns were missing from their storage place in his basement, though police saw no signs of forced entry. Later, the man told police the guns were actually still in the basement, hidden behind some clothes.

Woman poured out of bar, onto sidewalk

A caller reported a woman lying on the ground at 26th and Cuyler. Police found her unresponsive, with a swollen right eye and bleeding face. Suddenly, she woke up in a combative mood and resisted paramedics as they tried to help her onto a stretcher. The 47-year-old woman, a resident of the 2600 block of Lombard, was with a 28-year-old man. The man told police they were in a nearby bar when he saw that she had reached a state of major intoxication, so he tried to take her home. The woman’s injuries came about, he said, when she fell and hit her head on the sidewalk.
Accident narrowly avoided

A blue Mitsubishi sedan blew a red light at 16th and East, nearly hitting another car. Police stopped the driver, who had no license or insurance, only a Mexican ID. Driver Emanuel Dominguez, 23, of the 1400 block of north Bosworth, Chicago, was cited for all the above.
Better background check needed next time

Police met with the 42-year-old owner of a building in the 1800 block of Clarence. The owner said earlier in the day some U.S. Marshals came to the address looking for one of his tenants, who is wanted by the Illinois Department of Corrections. The landlord said he changed the locks on advice from the marshals, and said the 30-year-old tenant should have moved out on May 15th. The landlord called police because at 10 PM the tenant had driven past the Clarence address and said to him, “you dimed me out”.
Daughter spots invaders of dad’s van

An 18-year-old woman came home to the 3600 block of Scoville to find an occupied 2001 Cadillac sedan blocking her driveway. The driver moved when she motioned for him to do so and she pulled in. As she got out of her vehicle, she was surprised to see two other men exiting her dad’s work van, which was parked on 36th St. The two got into the Cadillac, which drove away. The woman was able to record the plates, which were registered to an Addison woman. The suspects were described only as three black males.

Needle-toting woman hanging out in McD’s restroom

Callers complained of a suspicious woman in the washroom of McDonald’s, 6401 Cermak. When police asked for ID, the woman produced a state ID for a “Katherine Stevens”. According to the ID, “Stevens” was 5’2”. This woman was noticeably taller. She was also unable to state the birthdate on that ID. Next, the suspect said her name was “Gerri S. Watkins,” but had no ID for this new name. She was arrested, and a custodial search of the bags she carried recovered seven hypodermic needles, a burnt spoon and two sets of forceps. Her fingerprints showed she was Penny L. Graves, 31, of Chicago. She then told police she had found the fake ID on the street. She was charged with obstruction and unlawful possession of hypodermic syringes.
Child reports bike stolen

An eight-year-old boy told him mom someone stole his bike, so she called police. The boy said he rode his red 20-inch BMX bike to the pool at 1500 Maple, parked it unlocked near the bike rack, and went swimming.
Garage door forced

A homeowner in the 6400 block of Sinclair reported his garage service door was forced open but nothing was missing.
