Brick thief spoils front lawn effect

A woman in the 2200 block of Scoville reported that someone stole 15 landscape bricks from her yard during the day.
Contortionist burglar doesn’t find much

Police think a burglar entered a locked apartment in the 1800 block of Clarence by creeping through a service hatch behind a pantry shelf. The place was found in disarray by the resident, who called police. A small amount of cash and a jar of change were missing; officers were able to get some fingerprints for analysis.
Two Cermak businesses tagged

Two businesses in the 6200 block of Cermak were defaced with graffiti; one had the brick wall around its garbage area tagged with gang graffiti and illegible symbols done in black marker. The other was marked in blue and green spray paint with letters and unreadable stuff on its back door and wall.
Chicago man accused of menacing girlfriend’s brother by phone

A 19-year-old man from the 1600 block of Oak Park Avenue told police he is being harassed with phone calls from his sister’s boyfriend, a Chicago man who believes the 19-year-old owes him money. The boyfriend has threatened to come looking for him with his 300 lb sidekick.
No license, no insurance, no turn signal

A GMC Yukon eastbound on Kenilworth quickly turned right onto Grove without signaling. An officer followed the vehicle and stopped it in the 2200 block of Oak Park. The driver, Omar Martinez, 21, of Cicero, was ticketed for not signaling a turn, having no insurance and having no license to drive.
Darkened windows, lack of license both fineable offenses

An officer on Gunderson watching for stop sign scofflaws noticed a 2000 Acura with illegal tinted windows, and stopped the car. The driver, a 17-year-old boy from the 3400 block of Ridgeland, had no driver’s license and was ticketed for both offenses.
Unlicensed teen ignores stop sign

A gold Chevy Tahoe eastbound on 15th blew a stop sign at Lombard and was pulled over at 16th and Lombard. The driver, a 16-year-old Cicero boy, was taken into custody and ticketed for driving without a license, having no insurance and disobeying the stop sign. His dad came to pick him up.
Shoplifters stuff strollers with swag

A security officer for Marshall’s, 7163 Cermak, told police he was holding two female shoplifters. The two teenagers pushed baby strollers, and kept stacking items on top of the strollers or in the storage areas below the seats. The security guard, via surveillance camera, saw them constantly looking over their shoulders and up at the ceiling. He observed as they rolled up clothing items, concealing them in the stroller bottom and in diaper bags. They stopped at the service desk to ask for job applications, then left without paying. A 17-year-old girl from the 2100 block of Euclid and an 18-year-old from the 1900 block of Euclid each stole eight items, with a total value of $198.86. Each was charged with one count of retail theft. Juvenile detectives took custody of the children the offenders brought with them.

An officer set a trap for an opossum that got into a garage in the 2700 block of Oak Park Avenue.
Windsor business tagged

A business in the 6800 block of Windsor was tagged in a couple of places with graffiti in red “bubble” type letters.
Fight call fizzles

Police arrived after being told of a fight in progress at 39th and Oak Park Avenue. A 29-year-old man from the 3800 block of Oak Park Ave said three males crossed from the south side of 39th and “started talking trash” to him. He says he confronted them, and they punched and hit him. However, he refused to sign any complaints.
Purse snatched from 88-year-old on 16th; second strong-arm robbery of the day

An 88-year-old woman who went shopping in Cermak Plaza had just returned to her home in the 6500 block of 16th St. when someone grabbed her black purse from her hands and fled eastbound through the alley. The purse contained credit cards, a driver’s license, a checkbook, $1,000 cash, and $2,000 worth of checks made out to the victim. A Cicero woman later found the checkbook and reported it to the bank; she saw the checkbook thrown out the window of an older white Buick Skylark with temporary plates. The man who threw it was described as a white male, in his 30s, with longish dark hair and a white T-shirt. A Cicero man later found the purse after it was thrown from a dark Ford Taurus that sped through the alley of the 5900 block of 16th.
Car badly scratched

A 20-year-old Berwyn woman reported someone scratched the driver’s side of her 2005 Chevy sedan from front to back while it was parked at 36th and Wesley.
Brick vs windshield enables burglary

Police were dispatched to the scene of a car burglary in the 2600 block of Home. The victim was walking to his car to leave for work and found his 1998 Jetta had a brick on the driver’s seat. Unfortunately for the car, the brick had arrived there by passing through the windshield. The stereo was stolen. The victim also said the burglar got his wallet, containing his driver’s license, Social Security card, credit card, resident card and $30 cash.
Berwyn man has his Jimmy impounded

An officer in the 2200 block of Ridgeland heard a blue 1999 GMC Jimmy blasting its stereo, and put a stop to it by impounding the 20-year-old man’s vehicle. The driver, from the 1900 block of Scoville, was fined $500.
