Cicero speeder stopped

A Cicero man in a grey Toyota Solara was clocked by police doing 46 MPH in a 25 MPH zone on Cermak near Wenonah. Attif Abbas, 23, was ticketed for driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance, no front plate and of course speeding.
Fingerprints ID unlicensed driver

An officer saw a green sedan disobey the red light at Harlem and Ogden, then speed west doing 45 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Yigael Gomez, 20, of Bellwood, could not produce a license or insurance, only a Mexican ID card. He had never possessed a driver’s license and had to be positively identified by fingerprints.

A black 2004 Chevy truck had its temporary plate stolen in the 1800 block of Scoville.
Miffed man claims machete menace

A man called police to say another man threatened him with a machete near Tastee Freez, 26th and Clarence. The caller pointed out a man driving a tan Intrepid. Police spoke with the Intrepid driver, a 24-year-old Cicero resident. He stated that the accuser had wanted to continue to ride in the car, but the driver refused, and stopped the car to remove the passenger’s backpack from the trunk. He stated he has a machete as well as a hatchet in his trunk because he uses these items daily for his job at a Brookfield landscaping firm. No witnesses confirmed any of the complainant’s accusations. The Intrepid driver was ticketed for driving with no head lights and having an obstructed windshield.
Daughters think mom’s ex ripped her off

Three women visiting their mom in her flat in the 1200 block of Highland told police that on May 6, mom’s ex-boyfriend, a 34-year-old Chicago man, showed up at mom’s place drunk. The daughters said he forced open a locked closet, took out an envelope they knew to contain $680, and left it with only $280 remaining. The investigation continues.
Copper accoutrements removed

While conducting a burglary investigation in an apartment building in the 6700 block of 19th, the owner told police that over the previous two weeks, someone stole a 12-foot copper gutter and two 20-foot copper downspouts from the building.
Burglars take a ton of stuff, leave a lot of prints

An apartment in the 6700 block of 19th was broken into via the back door. The burglar(s) took a 37” flat screen TV and a surround-sound DVD system; a 32” RCA TV and a DVD player, and computer and printer, as well as clothing. Police successfully obtained fingerprints.
Quickie vandalism

A 20-year-old woman parked her car in the 3400 block of Harlem for 10 minutes. When she returned to it, the front passenger window was broken.
Board up, down, up again

A tenant behind on his rent in the 3100 block of Harlem came home to find someone had removed the board that replaced his apartment door. He says the landlord removed the door on May 3, at which time the doorway was boarded up. Police called the board-up company once more.

An officer in the 1500 block of Home could hear a 1998 Pontiac from 75 feet away, and continued to hear it as the distance increased. The Pontiac was impounded, though Cicero driver Joel Martinez, 31, told the officer in broken English that he did not think the music was that loud.
Not content to bully only at home

A man from the 6400 block of Sinclair, who appeared in Maybrook court in a domestic violence case, was seen intimidating a witness at Maybrook. The intimidation was observed by a Berwyn detective on the courthouse grounds. The man will be charged with intimidation.
Knuckleheads set trash can on fire

Fire and police personnel responded to a garbage can fire in the 2300 block of Kenilworth. The fire department extinguished the fire. Witnesses saw two white males and two white females set the green 55-gallon can on fire, then flee northbound on foot. They were last seen at Oak Park and 21st.

Police found some gang graffiti in Proksa Park, 3001 Wisconsin. The Park District will remove it.

Cicero driver caught speeding, among other things

A 1992 Mitsubishi Galant was clocked at 45 MPH in a 25 MPH zone as it zipped east on 16th near Home. The Cicero driver, Alejandro Islas-Pita, age 42, could show only a Mexican ID. Fingerprints revealed he also uses the name “Alejandro Isles”. He received tickets for speeding, lack of insurance and driving without a license.
