Multiticketed
May 23, 2007, 2 PM
Police stopped a Dodge sedan, audible 175 feet away, in the 7100 block of Cermak. The car also had illegal tinted windows. Driver Heliodoro Renteria, 20, of Cicero, was ticketed for the above and for having no driver’s license. The Dodge was impounded.
Stoner nooner

When police saw a man smoking a marijuana-type pipe in the 2300 block of Euclid/Wesley alley, they asked him what he was doing. The man said, “Just smoking some weed.” The 19-year-old, a resident of that block, was charged with possession and issued a $50 ticket, which he paid in full.

Injured dog found

A German Shepherd was found, apparently hurt, in the 2700 block of Kenilworth. Two officers tried to capture the limping animal but had to use a tranquilizer gun in order to safely handle the dog and take it to the vet.
Graffiti burst

Vandals put graffiti on the sidewalk in the 6700 block of 16th. In the 1400 block of Harlem, the rear door and drainpipe of a building were hit with gang graffiti, which was photographed and removed.
Burglary, criminal damage

A woman reported someone broke into her car, which was parked in the 7000 block of 35th, and stole her $300 GPS system. And in the 1500 block of Euclid, someone broke five windows of a Ford Explorer, using a brick.
An ungodly hour for noise

A black 1994 Mercedes in the 1400 block of Grove could be clearly heard 150 feet away. Police ticketed the driver, a man from the 2100 block of Gunderson, and impounded the peace-disturbing Mercedes.
Out too late

A 16-year-old girl who had been reporting missing by her mom was located at 16th and Oak Park by police. Police drove her home to the 2100 block of Kenilworth and gave her a ticket for curfew violation.
Drunk, sulky cyclist messes with Mustang

Police responded to a disturbance in the 3600 block of Elmwood. They found three men in a garage, drinking and working on vehicles. The men reported that a fourth man --a 25-year-old from the 2700 block of Ridgeland—showed up drunk and began to break beer bottles. He was asked to leave, and one man, from Elmhurst, offered to drive him home. This upset the bottle-breaker, who started a fight with the Elmhurst man. The drunken man threw a brick at the Elmhurst man’s 1991 Mustang, which was parked in the alley. The drunken man’s motorcycle was towed away and he was charged with criminal damage to property.
Cicero teen drives sans seatbelt, license

Polilce stopped a Cicero teen in the 7100 block of Cermak for wearing no seatbelt. Wendy Ryres, 17, told police her license was not with her. But a computer name check showed no license for her at all. When asked again, she admitted having no license to drive. She was ticketed for both offenses.
Small dog avenges self on pitbull owner

A 19-year-old woman—who had been ticketed only days earlier for lettting her dog run loose—got the same ticket again when her pitbull/boxer mix ran out her gate and bit a Jack Russell terrier walking with its owner. As the pitbull owner tried to break up the fight, the Jack Russell bit her left middle finger.

Two bikes taken

A woman in the 2800 block of Harvey reported someone stole two bicycles from her garage during the afternoon. The two red Mongoose bikes were worth $325 each. A neighbor said a suspicious man and woman were hanging around that garage earlier in the day.

An Oswego man who parked in the back lot of Cermak Plaza told police someone entered his Chevy sedan and stole his sunglasses and personal papers. The 29-year-old told police the car may have been unlocked.

Police monitoring seatbelt safety at Cermak and Wenonah stopped a Dodge Stratus whose driver, a 25-year-old man from the 1800 block of Home, wore no seatbelt and was driving on a suspended license. Next, a blue Dodge pickup was stopped for excessive noise; the driver lives in the 1300 block of Gunderson. A minute later, Cicero driver Araceli Matias, 28, was stopped for wearing no seatbelt. She also had no license or insurance. A white Jetta was impounded for noise, and its driver—20-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez of Beloit, Wisconsin—ticketed for that and no seatbelt. Chicagoan Hugo Sandoval, 31, from the 5100 block of south Homan, was stopped because nobody in his Pontiac sedan was belted. Sandoval also drove without a license. And a 19-year-old man from the 1800 block of Wenonah had his really loud Mazda impounded for noise.
Family phone threats

A woman told police she and her son were being harassed by threatening phone calls from her ex. The man has called her at work and the boy at his school. The woman believes the ex is employed by the village of Oak Park.
One garage entry, two efforts

Two garages were tampered with in the 3400 block of Kenilworth. Police found pry marks on both, but only one was entered. Stolen were a Black and Decker drill and numerous hand tools. Police were able to get fingerprints.
