Pump and run

The manager of a gas station in the 3800 block of Harlem reported a pump & run. A man in a red Ford sedan pumped 9.4 gallons of unleaded gasoline worth $28, then left eastbound on Pershing. The Ford’s plates register to a man in the 3200 block of Wisconsin.
Mistook gas for brake

Police responding to a two-vehicle accident in the 2600 block of Scoville spoke with the drivers, one of whom stated that he stopped at a red light but accidentally hit the gas pedal, after which the collision occurred. The driver also told police he had no driver’s license.
Toddler unsecured in speeding sedan

Radar clocked a 1998 Ford Taurus doing 50 MPH in a 30 MPH zone in the 6200 block of Ogden. The driver, 19-year-old Quintashaya E. Hunter of Chicago, was ticketed for speeding, driving without license or insurance, and having a three-year-old passenger who was not in a child safety seat.
Burglary suspects flee when seen

Police answered a call about three males in the 2300 block of Gunderson, trying to burglarize a grey 1994 Chevy through its side windows. The office arrived and saw three males inside a gray and maroon van lacking a front license plate. When they saw police, they jumped out of the van and ran westbound between houses. Witnesses described the suspects as three black males in dark pants. The car was towed; it had a damaged steering column and the power to its alarm system had been cut.
Intoxicated man passes out at wheel

An officer in the 2800 block of Harvey saw a 2005 Ford Explorer partially obstructing the street. Despite the SUV’s loud radio the driver slumped limply in the driver’s seat. On the front passenger floor was a cooler containing ice and one unopened Heineken. Police got his attention at last, but he was disoriented, had trouble locating his wallet and was unable to perform any sobriety tests – instead, he just stared. He refused a breath test and was ticketed for improper parking on a roadway and DUI while in control of a vehicle.

Sweats-clad suspect flees scene

The victim of a vehicle break-in told police she saw a man standing by her Chevy Caprice in the 1200 block of Highland after she heard the car’s window break. She yelled and the man fled westbound through yards. The offender is described as male, 5’11”, medium build, black, wearing grey sweatpants and sweatshirt.

Massive graffiti find rivals Lascaux

Police found gang graffiti on 28 properties in the 1200, 1300 and 1500 blocks of Kenilworth; the 1300 block of Clinton; the 1400 block of Grove; the 6900 block of Roosevelt, the 1200 block of Home, the 2900 block of Harlem and the 3600 block of Oak Park Avenue.

Someone else’s mess gets lot owner in trouble

The owner of an open lot complained to police that a construction company is storing machinery and debris on his property without permission. Now he has gotten a local ordinance ticket for the mess, even though the stuff isn’t his. He was told to contact the building department.
Teens in alley scuffle

Four Morton West freshman were reportedly involved in a scuffle. A 16-year-old girl and her mom told police at 3 PM the girl visited a boy who lives in the 1400 block of Home, trying to get some belongings back. They met in the alley, but the boy refused to give her the items and would not let the her leave. According to the girl, two other boys appeared. One grabbed her throat, pushed her down and hit her in the head, possibly with a set of keys. She escaped, told her mom and came to police.
Sulk all you like, but the car is getting towed

A 2001 blue Buick sedan was towed away and the owner ticketed because police could hear the sound system 100 feet away. The car was stopped at 26th and Oak Park Ave. The driver, a 24- year-old Cicero man, refused to sign the noise citation and impoundment form, which of course had no effect on their execution.
Flea marketeer suffers setback

A man from the 1800 block of Harlem reported his 1998 Astro van door appeared tampered with. The four bins of cell phones and accessories he stored inside were missing, as was the City of Chicago vendor’s license he needs to sell cell phones at flea markets there.
Berwyn woman offends with loud car stereo

An officer heard the stereo from a grey 2007 Ford 4-door 100 feet away from where the car was stopped at a red light at 26th and Oak Park Avenue. The driver, a 27-year-old woman from the 6500 block of 27th Place, was ticketed for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance, and the Ford was towed.
The penalties jump for repeat offenders

An officer on patrol at Roosevelt and Harlem stopped a 1998 green Chevy Cavalier he saw switch lanes without a signal. The driver carried no ID, but a name check showed his license had been suspended for DUI since November 2005. 53-year-old Jacques R. Rogers of Oak Park also had a previous conviction for driving with a suspended license. He was charged with felony driving with license suspended and for the failure to signal.

A woman in the 6500 block of Pershing reported someone put graffiti on her brick garage.
Parked van stolen

A 1996 Astro Van was stolen from its parking spot in the 3200 block of Lombard.
