Felony charge after Ridgeland hit-and-run, ambulance damage
May 17, 2008, 3:28 AM
The victim of a hit-and-run accident in the 1800 block of Ridgeland said she and a friend were sitting in her Chevy Malibu when a dark SUV stopped behind them and began to honk repeatedly. The friend got out and asked what the honker wanted; he said he was there to pick someone up. They argued, then the friend reentered the Chevy. The victims said the SUV then struck the back of the Chevy and took off, leaving the front license plate at the scene. It was registered to a man in the 1400 block of Scoville. Police went to that address, where they saw the SUV. They also saw the front door glass and the front window of the residence broken out, with blood all over. Police located driver Jose L. Munoz, 18, in the rear of the residence; the report described him as aggressive and screaming obscenities at police. Munoz was taken to MacNeal Hospital by ambulance. Paramedics reported Munoz kicked out a window in ambulance #905 and was combative towards them. Once in the hospital, Munoz was aggressive with nurses and security guards, spitting blood at staff members several times. Munoz was charged with one felony count of criminal damage to state property, as well as leaving the scene of an accident and driving uninsured.
