Woman’s strenuous efforts gain attention of police, medical personnel

An 18-year-old woman, in the Berwyn lockup on another charge, was found in possession of a 1.2 gram bag of marijuana, then was seen placing her clothing around her neck. An officer asked whether she was trying to hang herself, and removed her from her cell. The woman would not calm down; when the officer turned away, she spat upon him, an act witnessed by two other officers. She was taken to the emergency room for a psychiatric evaluation. The woman, a resident of the 3100 block of Euclid, was charged with one count of battery.
