Woman attacks security guard with pepper spray, escapes

August 26, 2007, 6:01 PM
Police got a call from Shoe Carnival in Cermak Plaza about a woman stopped for suspected theft of a pair of silver shoes. She used pepper spray to disable a security guard, and escaped in a white Mitsubishi.  In her flight, the suspect dropped her white Gucci purse, which contained the unpaid-for pair of silver shoes, valued at $34.98.  The purse also contained a canister of pepper spray and a knife, along with identification belonging to a 21-year-old woman living in the 2800 block of west Polk, Chicago.  Three other young women had entered with the offender and were uncooperative when questioned, refusing to state their names or provide identification.  The investigation is ongoing.
