Berwyn Police Blotter

Witnesses: workmen damaged fence, b-ball hoop

August 29, 2008, 6:54 PM
A woman in the 3400 block of Grove told police that after school, the kids came out to play basketball but found their free-standing hoop unusable.  The hoop itself was completely bent upward; the chainlink fence to which it was attached was bent inward, and the pole was damaged.  A neighbor told her a crew of men working to resurface a driveway at 3419 Grove did the damage.  The owner of that property gave the victim the number of the company doing the resurfacing:  Robert R. Andreas & Sons, Inc. of Cicero.

A witness told police he was in his back yard when he heard something fall.  He saw the basketball pole and hoop fall down, then saw two men from the repaving crew walk to the hoop and right it.  The victim told police she was willing to sign complaints.
