Berwyn Police Blotter

Wanted man caught when police respond to bar disturbance

April 8, 2007, 12:39 AM
Police arrived at Michael Anthony’s restaurant, 6434 Ogden, in time to see a man and a woman who had just been escorted outside the place by security. The woman was a 31-year-old Berwyn resident.  The man, also 31, was William E. Hicks of Robbins.  Hicks appeared highly intoxicated and said a stranger inside the bar had punched him in the face.  But police spoke with bar owner Tony Vais of Stickney, who said in fact Hicks and his girlfriend had been arguing in the bar. During this dispute, Hicks had grabbed the woman’s neck and choked her, and an unknown man had simply tried to separate them. The woman refused to sign a complaint and was issued a domestic violence packet. But Hicks had two active warrants out of Posen and was arrested.
