VW rolls through stop sign; squad-car horn causes driver to freeze rather than yield

July 8, 2008, 12:50 PM
An officer saw a silver Volkswagen Beetle run right onto 37th from southbound Ridgeland without ever stopping, despite the fact that the intersection has posted stop signs in all four directions.  Driver Jazmin Padilla, 27, of the 3800 block of Wenonah, had never gotten a license to drive.  She was ticketed for disobeying the stop sign, and for driving unlicensed and uninsured.

An officer was behind a white Jeep, northbound on Ridgeland at 26th, and observed that the driver refused to turn on red (i.e. get out of the way) when the squad car was trying to make a right turn.  The officer hit the air horn, but the driver still sat at the light, and continued to do so even after the light turned green.  When the officer asked the driver for a license, she said she had none.  Driver Ana Vallejo, 42, of the 2400 block of Wesley, received tickets for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving without a license, and no insurance.
