Berwyn Police Blotter

Vehicle vs kids in crosswalk

September 14, 2007, 8:02 AM
An officer monitoring morning school crossings at 16th and Gunderson saw a black GMC vehicle fail to yield to children and a crossing guard in the intersection, and asked the driver why.  32-year-old Martha Avila of Cicero told the officer she was aware of the violation but had severe stomach pains and was going to Loyola.  The officer called a Berwyn ambulance, but the woman refused to be transported to the hospital or accept any medical assistance.  Avila was cited for failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
