Tuesday’s burglaries—and what’s with all the unlocked doors?

August 28, 2007, 10:15 AM
A garage in the 1300 block of Oak Park Avenue was found with its side door, doorframe and deadbolt damaged; a red MTD Yard Machine lawnmower was stolen.

The victim of a burglary in the 1800 block of Gunderson told police someone entered through the garage’s unlocked service door and got into the—also unlocked—Mercury Sable parked within. The offenders removed $50 in cash, $50 worth of CDs, a $100 tennis racket, a $75 paintball gun and a 1940s bottle of whiskey.  The keys, which had been left in the car, were also stolen.
4:19 PM
A man in the 1200 block of Kenilworth reported someone broke into his garage’s side door and stole a $300 mower; a $50 18-ft ladder; and a $25 hydraulic jack.
7:02 PM
An uninvited someone entered a house in the 1300 block of Cuyler via the unlocked back doors.  Stolen:  a $600 Toshiba laptop; a $40 router; eight bottles of Cazadores tequila, worth $45 each; and three bottles of cologne valued at 50 bucks apiece.
