Berwyn Police Blotter

Tinted plate cover, fake plates, wrong plates, cutting off a cop car

April 25, 2008, 9:20 AM
Police stopped a brown Chevy pickup in the 6400 block of Cermak because of its illegal tinted license plate cover.  Upon closer inspection, the plate itself proved to be fraudulent.  Driver Placido Ortega, 27, of the 2700 block of south Pulaski, Chicago, told the officer he had no license or insurance.  Actually, he had a license, but it had been suspended.  The computer check of his name also revealed an active arrest warrant out of Lombard.  Ortega was cited for driving while suspended, no insurance, improper use of registration and tinted plate covers.  The truck was impounded because of the suspended license.

A grey Chevy pickup truck was stopped in the 2600 block of Harlem because it bore passenger, rather than truck, license plates.  Driver Enrique Ordaz, 33, of Summit was charged with driving unlicensed and without valid registration.

An officer was patrolling at 23rd and Ridgeland when an orange Volkswagen Beetle pulled out in front of the squad car, nearly forcing a collision.  The driver could not produce a license and proof of insurance upon request.  Fingerprints identified the driver as 22-year-old Rafael Rodriguez of Cicero, and also uncovered an arrest warrant for him out of DuPage County.  He received tickets for driving with no license or insurance, and for failure to yield the right of way.
