Berwyn Police Blotter

There was something in the air that night, Fernando …

January 4, 2008, 9:47 PM
A concerned citizen called to report a suspicious red passenger car in the 1600 block of Clinton.  An officer found the car parked, running and occupied by a man.  At the officer’s approach, the driver rolled down his window, upon which a heavy smell of marijuana became apparent.  The driver was asked to step out of the car.  Devin D. Johnson, 19, of the 1800 block of Cermak, Chicago, told police he was smoking a joint, and gave permission for a search of the car.  Police located a green, leafy substance ["shake"; see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shake_(cannabis) ] throughout the interior of the car, both front and back.  They also recovered a digital scale, three $20 bills, three $10 bills, two $5 bills and four $1 bills, all in a shoebox.  There was also a clear bag containing 29 smaller baggies of marijuana; the smaller bags were stamped with red hearts.  A total of 26.5 grams of pot was recovered.  After being read his rights, Johnson made a statement to police, in which he said he had been smoking weed and cruising.  He drove to the 1600 block of Clinton to pick up his friend, Fernando, but police approached him before Fernando came out.  Johnson said he bought the drugs three weeks earlier at a party, and asserted that he got a good deal on it since it was already individually packaged.  He said he had never sold pot before but planned to start and charge $10 per bag.  Johnson was charged with two felony counts: possession of marijuana, and possession with intent to deliver.
