Berwyn Police Blotter

The name game

March 6, 2008, 1:40 PM
A call complaining of a loud noise brought police to a house in the 3600 block of Harvey.  Police met a woman at the door.  She said she lived there, had no identification with her, and called because she heard noises in the house.  The woman gave her name as “Gina M. Leyva” and said she has a lookalike twin sister named Sherri M. Leyva.  Three officers checked and found nobody else in the house; they did, however, notice an Illinois state ID card lying on a dresser in the name of Sherri M. Leyva.  Police asked the caller, once more, to identify herself.  She repeated the assertion that she was “Gina M. Leyva”.  A check of that name showed no record on file, even though the woman said she had an Illinois driver’s license. A check of the name Sherri M. Leyva revealed an active arrest warrant.  Police told the woman to give the correct information, or ride to the station to be fingerprinted.  At this, “Gina” admitted she was really Sherri, and knew of the warrant.  She was arrested and processed for the warrant, which was for failure to appear in court on a DUI charge.
