Shooting incident involves gang member

Police came to the 1200 block of Wenonah on a call of “shots fired”. They found a 25-year-old man holding his right arm and bleeding from his right side, along with a 42-year-old block resident police saw yelling at the shooting victim. The older man told police the victim was “threatening him.” The older man was known to police as a leader of a street gang; he was placed on the ground and handcuffed for officer safety.
The victim told police he walked to the rear of a house in the 1200 block of Wenonah, when a stranger shot him three times and fled northbound. He described the shooter as a white male, short, wearing a black vest, dark clothes and a “tight” haircut. The victim said he encountered the shooter on the rear steps of a house. The shooter, he said, yelled, “What the f--- are you doing here?”, then displayed a long gun, fired three rounds, entered a dark older vehicle, and fled northbound.
The victim and his wife had an earlier altercation with the gang leader, and were discussing it via cell phone when the shooting occurred. The wife said she heard three or four shots, then heard her husband say “I’m dying.”
Witnesses reported hearing shots and a woman’s screams. They saw the injured man, with his wife, sitting on the sidewalk in front of the house, then saw a tall, skinny white man, accompanied by a heavy white woman, yelling “This is what you get for f------ with me!” and “You’re a f------ whore!” The skinny man and heavy woman fled at the sound of police sirens.
Police were familiar with the 42-year-old man’s address from multiple previous visits; the man lived there with his 24-year-old girlfriend and her mother.
The gunshot victim was taken to the emergency room at Loyola. He was shot in the shoulder, arm and chest; the latter wound exited through his back. He sustained a broken shoulder and arm bone, as well as a collapsed lung. The investigation continues.
