Berwyn Police Blotter

Seatbelt and noise check produces 93 tickets, one injury

April 5, 2007, between 1:40 and 4 PM.
Fifteen police officers, three auxiliary officers and Police Chief William Kushner ran a check for seatbelt and noise ordinance compliance in the 2300 block of Home and behind Cermak Plaza.  Police issued 93 tickets during this time.  Three cars were impounded for excessive noise; one was a man who said he needed the stereo loud because he was deaf (he was also unlicensed). One 14-year-old boy was arrested for driving while too young to have a license. One 77-year-old woman in a Toyota Corolla disobeyed Detective David Green’s order to stop so he could ticket her for wearing no seatbelt. Instead, she drove forward and hit him in the knee with her car, which was then stopped by another officer.  She received three citations:  failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to yield to a pedestrian, and disobeying a police officer.
