Safety enforcement zone at East/Ogden reveals drugs, revoked/suspended/unlicensed drivers

All at East and Ogden:
Police randomly stopped vehicles to check for seat belt compliance. A green Chrysler Town & County minivan was subjected to an open-air sniff by K-9 officer Ares. The dog alerted to the front passenger wheel well and head light. Police searched the minivan and recovered a towel wrapped around a clear plastic bag containing 3 grams of marijuana. Tickets for pot possession and unlicensed driving were issued to Arturo A. Moreno-Zaldivar, 19, of Cicero.

Police stopped a Kia Amanti and discovered the driver had neither license nor insurance. Two tickets were given to Sarina M. Vega, 21, of the 3100 block of Harlem.

A Purple PT Cruiser was stopped. Driver Brian A. Tomasek, 29, of the 3700 block of Gunderson, reportedly told police he did not have his license with him. In fact, it was suspended, meaning the car had to be impounded. In addition, Tomasek was processed for an outstanding fugitive arrest warrant out of south Cook County for DUI.

Green Audi sedan; when asked for license and insurance, the driver could present neither, offering a Mexican ID instead. A check of the name of Jose D. Flores, 26, of the2600 block of west Division, Chicago, revealed a suspended license; he was also cited for no insurance and the car was impounded.

Red Chevy Cavalier; driver Ashley Torres, 17, of Cicero, was ticketed for driving uninsured and with a learner’s permit but no license.

A GMC pickup driver showed police a Mexican driver’s license in lieu of the required version. A check of his name in the US system showed “No Record on File”. Police arrested Oscar R. Salazar, 36, of the 1900 block of Highland; he was cited for driving unlicensed and uninsured.

The driver of a grey Chevy Malibu identified himself only with a Mexican ID card; tickets for no license or insurance went to Margarito G. Alonso, 26, of the 2100 block of Elmwood.

Victor H. Rivera, 44, of the 2700 block of south Komensky, Chicago, had a suspended license, for which he was cited; his Pontiac SUV was therefore impounded.

The driver of a red Ford pickup truck pulled over by police in the safety zone appeared intoxicated. Alexander Revilla, 28, of the 3800 block of Kenilworth, failed multiple field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breath analysis. He was charged with DUI as well as with driving sans license or insurance.

A white Chevy Cavalier, randomly stopped by police working the safety enforcement check, had a cracked windshield, resulting in a citation for having an obstructed view. Driver Joana Alarcon, 25, of Mt. Prospect, was also ticketed for driving with no license or insurance.

Honda Civic stopped; driver unlicensed/uninsured. Tickets went to 21-year-old Jose Cortes of Cicero.

Police asked the driver of a Toyota pickup to show his license. Instead, Gilberto E. Palencia, 34, of Stickney, presented a Mexican driver’s license and received a ticket for not having a valid license.

Police arrested driver Sergio Garibay, 36, of 7110 Pershing, when they learned his license was revoked; his Pontiac sedan was impounded.

A random stop for a blue Ford Expedition resulted in the SUV getting towed to the impound yard because driver Orlando Bahena, 24, of Cicero, had a suspended license.
