Robbers may have hit Cicero address minutes before
July 30, 2008, 11:28 PM
A 46-year-old man told police he had just parked his van in the his garage in the 2700 block of Highland, and had begun to shut the overhead door, when he saw a dark two-door, possibly foreign, car pull past the garage. Two men entered his garage through the service door. One man told the victim, “Give me the money”, upon which the victim used his cell phone to call 911 and yell “Police! Help me!” The second man said, “If he ain’t got no money, then shoot him”. The first robber grabbed at his own waistband, implying a weapon, while the second robber grabbed at the victim’s pockets, saying “Where’s the money?’ The two robbers then fled out the service door and drove away south, then east on 28th. The victim described the two as follows. The first, he said, was a male Hispanic, about 45, 5’8” and heavy, with short black hair and a button-up shirt. The second robber was described as a male black, 45, 5’8” and “skinny”, wearing dark clothing and a short sleeved shirt, as well as a baseball hat. The robber lost his hat during the incident; it fell to the garage floor. The hat was a dark blue/black New York Yankees cap, size 7 1/4. The victim told police he can identify the robbers and help create composite images.
Police learned of a similar incident—six minutes earlier—with offenders matching the description above. That robbery was in the 2400 block of south 60th Ct, Cicero.
