Robber batters businesswoman in front of bank, gets away with thousands in cash

November 26, 2007, 9:36 AM
A 48-year-old woman walking to Aztec America Bank at Oak Park and Cermak, said a man punched her in the face and robbed her.  The woman, who was carrying a bag containing checks and cash from her store, said she intended to make a deposit.  But after the man hit her, she dropped the bag.  The offender tore open the bag, stole $5,600 in cash, and fled on foot northbound.  Witnesses saw him enter an apartment building on the east side of the 2100 block of Oak Park Avenue, then emerge a few minutes later wearing a black skullcap.  The offender was described as a male black, about 25, 6’ tall, in baggy jeans and a black hoody with the hood up.  The hoody featured a blue and red design on the front.
