Berwyn Police Blotter

Rear-end collision x 2

March 23, 2008, 1:58 AM
Police were sent to a traffic accident at 34th and Oak Park, then learned while en route that the offender was leaving the scene. Officers met with a victim who said a vehicle two cars behind him hit the one immediately behind him.  The middle car struck the victim’s car; the rear vehicle then fled.  The other victim followed the offender and informed police the car was at Pershing and Ogden, where police stopped the offending car, a black Mercury Topaz.  Witnesses said the Topaz rear-ended a Mazda, shoving it into a Nissan, then drove off.  Driver Gregory A. Heider, 50, of Lyons, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to exchange information, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and driving uninsured.
