Poor driving choices lead to pot confiscation, charges

June 8, 2007, 5:42 PM
Gang task force officers saw a blue Nissan heading south on Oak Park near 32nd. The occupants wore no seatbelts.  The car was also using the parking lane to pass stopped traffic on the right.  When pulled over, driver Fabian Verdin, 19, of the 4400 block of Kenilworth, Stickney, and his 18-year-old passenge Nicholas Alvarez, also of Stickney, were seen engaging in furtive movements, so both men were asked to step out of the car.  A patdown of Alvarez recovered two plastic bags of marijuana.  Another large plastic bag of pot was found on the rear floorboard of the Nissan.  Between the big bag and the little ones, the total weight of marijuana recovered on the stop was 22.4 grams.
