Police shut down drug paraphernalia sales at gas station

April 25, 2008, 12:56 PM
Following a tip, police entered the store at the BP-Amoco gas station in the 3800 block of Harlem, where they found several glass pipes and digital scales on display at the front counter.  Police informed the manager and the clerk that the store was temporarily closed.
Among the items recovered by police were the following:
- nine digital scales
- two glass water pipes
- two packages of small, clear plastic baggies
- 19 metal pipe keychains
The clerk, employed there for two months, said the items have been for sale the entire time she has worked at the store.  Manager and clerk both said they thought the items were tobacco-related and acceptable to sell to anyone 18 or older.  The investigation continues.
