Police Chief William Kushner and a large group of officers—including K-9 Officer Ares and about a dozen Illinois State Police— converged on an apartment in the 1300 block of Lombard in Cicero to serve a warrant. They arrested Nicholas Mackenzie, 23, then searched the flat with the drug-sniffing dog, who alerted positively in the kitchen and at the fireplace in the front room. Items recovered in the search included the following:
—a silver-color grinder with a marijuana-leaf design on top, containing pot residue, found on a table.
-- Also on the table: a clear plastic baggie containing 2.6 grams of marijuana.
-- a red bong, found by the kitchen sink.
-- atop the fireplace, another clear plastic baggie containing six smaller baggies with “#1” printed on them.
-- Four clear baggies containing 44.8 grams of marijuana, found hidden under the fireplace mantel.
--another grinder, black, with the word “JAMAICA” on it, atop the mantel.
-- two clear bags containing a white chunky substance weighing 144 grams, found inside a red oven mitt in the kitchen.
-- three digital scales, one with cocaine residue.
-- a marijuana pipe shaped like a horse’s head.
-- 12.5 tablets of suspected Xanax, on the mantel inside a clear bag.
-- a clear bag containing many single-edged razor blades on the mantel.
--a digital camera, a video camera, a computer, a PlayStation III and games.
--cash totaling $1,298.
The suspected marijuana and cocaine all tested positive for those substances. Mackenzie was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession with intent to deliver, felony possession of marijuana, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
