Berwyn Police Blotter

Police catch up with, admonish, gas thief

January 16, 2008, 6:52 PM
A clerk at a Citgo gas station in the 2900 block of Harlem called police when a man pumped $22 of fuel into his car, then drove away northbound without paying.  The clerk described the man, his car and gave his license plate number, enabling police to stop the white Chrysler 399 at Harlem and Roosevelt.  The driver, a 44-year-old man from the 5300 block of west Adams, Chicago, admitted to the theft, said he was sorry, and offered to pay the $22.  The clerk decided to accept the money and not sign the complaint.  Police did not arrest the man, but told him not to return, lest he be charged with trespassing.
