Pedestrians endangered in crosswalk

September 11, 2008, 4:31 PM
An officer saw a Dodge pickup enter traffic on 16th from a private drive, just west of Oak Park. Rather than doing this slowly, the truck accelerated instead, forcing a line of vehicles to stop abruptly.  The truck then crossed the 16th/Oak Park intersection, even though it was full of pedestrians, who all had to stop to accommodate the truck.

Driver Jesus Navarrete, 29, of 4637 south Honore, Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving unlicensed and uninsured, failure to signal, improper turn, improper lane use, failure to yield emerging from a private drive, and failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
