During a safety violations check in the 6400 block of Roosevelt, police were stopping all eastbound vehicles. One, a tan Dodge Intrepid, contained an open 12-ounce container of Busch Natural Ice beer in the cupholder of the center console. A glass bottle of Seagram’s vodka was on the passenger-side floor. Driver Marshon L. Richardson, 26, of the 10500 block of south Rhodes, Chicago, appeared intoxicated to police. He failed several field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI. While being escorted to the squad car, police said, Richardson stated, “come on man, can’t you just give me a break, I was at a party and had a few drinks and I was just taking my friends home.” Police retrieved the beer bottle and the 1.75 bottle of vodka from the Intrepid, which was impounded. After being read his Miranda rights, police said, Richardson told them he had been at a party but was uncertain where it had been held. He was charged with DUI and with illegal possession of open alcohol by driver and by passenger.

Police at the same location observed a white Chevy Lumina which, when motioned to stop, braked so hard as to cause the tires to screech. THe driver wore no seat belt and appeared intoxicated. Luis A. Donahue, 27, of Oak Park, failed several field sobriety tests. His blood alcohol level was measured at .182. Donahue was cited for DUI, DUI over .08, illegally screeching his tires and no seat belt.

Same spot: a black Chevy Tahoe was stopped because its driver wore no seat belt. When the driver pulled over and put the car in park, an officer told him to turn the car off. The driver said, “It is.” When told a second time to shut off the car, he responded, “It is.” In fact, said police, the SUV was still running. Police spoke with Martin Lopez, 32, of the 2300 block of Lombard, and asked why he wore no shirt. Lopez reportedly stated he was “going home”. Lopez failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of .217. He was ticketed for DUI, DUI with a blood-alcohol level of .217, and no seat belt.
