Berwyn Police Blotter

“No speak English”

February 21, 2008, 4:35 PM
Police came to Circuit City in Cermak Plaza after a woman was caught applying for credit with a series of fake ID cards.  The woman filled out the application in the name “Karla Fernando Garcia”; the false Illinois state ID bore that name and the suspect’s photograph.  The 28-year-old woman’s real name was Araceli Porcayo, of the 4400 block of Maplewood, Chicago. Police were told a man came into the store with her and stayed beside her throughout the credit application process.  But when police asked Porcayo her companion’s name, she said “No speak English”.  Police then searched the man, finding inside his pants pocket a light-blue change purse with Winnie the Pooh and Tigger on it.  Inside the purse was a second fake Illinois state ID with Porcayo’s picture and a second false Social Security card.  Later, Porcayo made a statement to police that she purchased the false identification two weeks earlier in Chicago from a guy she met in a laundromat parking lot.  What a deal—only $80 for both, and he had them ready in just two hours! The man with Porcayo turned out to be 18-year-old Alvaro F. Rodriguez, same address.  The investigation continues.
